The 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU can easily be overclocked and underclocked to run between 800MHz and 1.7GHz or higher. Asus includes a utility with the Eee PC 901, 1000, and other Atom powered netbooks that makes it easy to switch between 1.2GHz, 1.6GHz, and 1.7GHz with the click of a button. And the MSI Wind netbook can run at 800MHz when on battery power or 1.6GHz when plugged in.
But while early reports indicated that the MSI Wind would also support overclocking for those times when you need a performance boost, when MSI brought the computer to market, the company left out the ability to overclock the netbook. Now, thanks to a BIOS update, you can overclock an MSI Wind by 8%, 15%, or 24%.Â
The update also fixes some bugs that were included in version 1.07 and 1.08 of the BIOS, so if you’ve previously updated your BIOS, you might want to grab the latest version.Â
For instructions on installing the BIOS updte, check out Electric Vagabond or the MSI Wind forums.
I noticed a little typo, 800GHz –> 800MHz (correct me if iam wrong)
I’d love to correct you and tell you that it’s really GHz! Unfortunately
it’s just a typo. Thanks!
Thanks for the link Brad. I think you might have linked to the 1.08 bios guide on my site – try this one instead for the official MSI release https://www.electricvagabond.com/2008/10/msi-wind-bios-109-update-overclock-and.html

Updated the link. Thanks!
Is there an easy way to further underclock the various Eee models? I’d like to be able to run my (on-order) Eee 1000HA at 800Mhz like the Acers, if it will eke out a few extra minutes of battery life (or, I hope, even more), vs. 1.2Ghz.

You could try using eeectl, but it’s important to note that this application
was designed for Eee PCs with Intel Celeron processors. I can’t guarantee
that it won’t cause problems on your system:
