If you place an order for a Lenovo IdeaPad S10 from the Lenovo web site, you’ll have to put up with a shipping delay of several weeks or longer. But retailer CompUSA says it has the netbook in stock and ready to ship. CompUSA has product listings for white and pink versions of the IdeaPad S10, and both pages says “order today, ships today.”

What’s more, CompUSA is charging $429.99, which is $10 less than the price on Lenovo’s web site. 

It’s possible that part of the reason Lenovo is having problems meeting customer orders in a timely fashion is because the company is busy shipping netbooks to stores like CompUSA which may have placed bulk orders. Or maybe the CompUSA web site is wrong. If you’ve orded and/or received a Lenovo IdeaPad S10 from a third party retailer, let us know about your experiences in the comments.

  1. I ordered a red S10 from Lenovo’s site on Wednesday (10/1) and it shipped on Friday (10/3). Currently tracking the shipment. 🙂

  2. Circuit City stores in my area don’t have them is stock yet. If you’re lucky enough to live near a store which does have them, good luck at getting to try it hands-on. At my local store at least, their security brackets are too small to hold a netbook. When they had the Acer Aspire One in stock, the staff had instructions not to let anyone untape and open a box.

    By explaining that it was impossible to know if you could type on the small keyboard without actually trying it, I was able to persuade them to let me untape, try one (Acer), and retape it. (I thought the keyboard was fine, but wasn’t really in the market for the Acer then, just checking on the keyboard size.)

    Edit: Circuit City is not listing blue tooth in the specs.

        1. i guess lenovo’s s10 order site has the official specs, even though they did list bluetooth when the site was first online. after several months, i’m pretty sure whatever is on there now is official.

          1. Yes, you’re right. They still have blue tooth in the feature list, but I see that they now have “(selected models)” underneath the description.

            This would not be a deal breaker for me anyway, because some of the BT dongles are so tiny now, I would probably just leave one plugged in all the time if I was using it often.

    1. tempting….i wonder how they put in that 1G memory since 512mb is soldered in.

      1. I would bet that they just add another 512mb to the units with the soldered-in RAM (which is probably all they’ve got). But we could hope that the business about the soldered 512mb is not always true. It just doesn’t seem to make sense to solder the stuff in when the open slot takes up to 2GB.

        Maybe most of their huge Asian market doesn’t want but 512mb. That’s the only senario I can think of that might make it more cost-effective for them to solder in the RAM, that is, at the motherboard factory where where people are already soldering stuff in; or maybe the RAM to be soldered in is way cheaper than the plug-in RAM. I wish somebody with real information would explain this to me 🙂

  4. I agree. Your personal experience wasn’t typical, and those who cancelled their orders fearful of November delivery were premature. I ordered late in the day on 8/19, was originally told 9/23, and had a revised date of 10/21. Sounds bad, except it actually shipped yesterday, 10/3. Nobody will be waiting months. Let’s be fair, at least: they screwed up, but they’re getting back on track. People overreacted.

    1. I would be fine to chalk it up to over-reaction to a minor screw-up on Lenovo’s part, except that it wasn’t just about shipping delays. No part of Lenovo seemed to be talking to any other part, and everyone who had any interaction to them received different information on whatever they asked about, from manufacturing and shipping times to product specs. Also, on specs, the Lenovo website said I would get bluetooth from the day I ordered, the reviews on the web are of S10s with bluetooth, even the manual packaged with my S10 says I have bluetooth… so why don’t any of us in the first wave of orders have bluetooth? Lenovo pulled a bait and switch on specs, and hasn’t even publicly acknowledged they screwed us.
