As reported yesterday, customers who have placed orders for Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbooks are starting to get visits from the technology stork. But not only is Dell making good on its promise to deliver products that were ordered a few weeks ago (unlike some other computer companies I could name *cough* *Lenovo* *cough*), Dell is even offering super-fast delivery on products ordered this week.

Liliputing reader Dave Marples tells me he placed an order for an Inspiron Mini yesterday morning at about 10am. It was delivered today.

Many potential customers were disgruntled when Dell failed to release the Mini in time for the back to school rush in August. But it looks like Dell’s decision to wait is paying off big time. The company isn’t suffering from the same kind of shortages and delays that have plagued other computer makers. At least not yet.

  1. As of this morning, mine is in the boxing stage, finally! Customer service rep says it will ship in 2 or 3 business days. I’m hoping to have Friday but I can survive until Monday if I know it shipped Friday anyway. I hope it’s perfect out of the box because I need this nightmare to end!

  2. If you ordered your Mini and it is delayed, check your version of Acrobat. If you have Acrobat 9 Multi Language listed, you’re order is going to be cancelled and you will have to place it all over again. I placed my original order on 9/12 and waited, checking the phone status line periodically to see where it was. Called on 9/23 and it said my order was cancelled — no warning or notice, just cancelled. Managed to get hold of someone to tell me my order had been redone but was on hold. Got it off hold on 9/25 and it is supposed to be expedited but I have heard nothing but “build stage” from the phone status line since. I guess expedite doesn’t mean what it used to.

  3. I ordered mine this morning(9/12) and it has already shipped. The black with 16gb, bluetooth, no cam. Shows tuesday(9/165) as the expected delivery date. I am very impressed by this, had shown expected ship date of 9/29 when I placed my order.

    1. I ordered mine on 9/12 as well. Had a glidge submitting the order but managed to get it submitted before closing 9/12. Still shows in production with expected ship date of 9/29. I guess my Alpine White, 1GB, 16GB SSD, 1.3MP Camera with Bluetooth isn’t one of the lucky configurations. Boo hoo!

  4. You cant buy a Linux Dell Mini.
On the US site, they tell you its a pre-order, tech support tells you October or later.
Everywhere else (that I checked, like UK, germany, France) there is NO mention of the Ubuntu version.
Until the first Linux version is shipped in the US, there is no Llnux. the other countries I guess dont matter.

  5. Sounds like the two folks above ordered the 16GB model, so maybe those are shipping out first (although dell being a made to order operation, it shouldn’t really matter). Shipping distance and method are other factors to consider. Mine is scheduled to ship on 9/23, so I won’t be upset unless they miss that deadline. Anything earlier earns them some brownie points.

  6. I won’t buy from Lenovo, never.
Never seen this horrible horrible customer service before.
I canceled S10 order. They never contact me or send email about how the request went. When I logged in Lenovo website to find out, the whole order just disappeared.

  7. Could be their shipping the middle version which has XP. The one with 8GB SSD. And maybe they haven’t received the high end one yet.

  8. Windows XP, 16 GB, 1.3 webcam, no bluetooth, black – shipping on 9/19. Could be based on the configuration.

  9. I got a black 16gb, with bluetooth, 1.3 cam and XP yesterday – shipping on 9/26.

  10. I wonder if people with certain configurations are receiving it faster than others?

    1. I know the Windows XP model is supposed to ship sooner than the Linux
version. Have y’all ordered the Windows or Linux models?

  11. I also ordered one the day it was announced. Still getting the “In Production” message with a scheduled delivery date of the 19th. Disappointed to hear that it could have been received sooner had I waited. Very strange.

  12. I ordered mine the day it came out. As a matter of fact, I ordered it withing minutes of it coming out. Mine isn’t scheduled to even ship until the 19th of this month! What is up with that? Then to find out that they are shipping other peoples the same day upsets me to say the least!

  13. And you wonder why lenovo wasn’t interested in buying any of Dell’s factories? They couldn’t deal with efficient manufacturing facilities!!!

  14. Dude I ordered my Dell yesterday … it’s still “In Production”.

    🙁
