I’m starting to suspect we’ll see stores giving away Asus Eee PCs pretty soon. Just a day after Amazon and other retailers dropped the price of the Eee PC 1000H to $449 and the Eee PC 901 from $599 to $499, Walmart is selling the 901 for a jaw dropping $448.
Now that Asus has more than a dozen Eee PC models I wouldn’t blame you if you forgot which one was the Eee PC 901, so here’s a refresher. This unit comes with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, an 8.9 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display, a 12GB SSD and Windows XP Home Edition. The keyboard is a little smaller thna the one on the Eee PC 1000H, but the unit is a little smaller and lighter overall. And now you can pick it up for about the same price as a 1000H.

The 901 (12G, white) is now 475,95 on Amazon. Walmart edited the page, it says 900 now.
Now I feel stupid for buying the 901 shortly after it came out. Oh well.
I noticed walmart’s price on the 901 this weekend, bought one, and it was delivered today. Unfortunately.. they delivered a 900 instead of the 901 I ordered. I emailed walmart about it, but haven’t heard back from them yet.
I think their website is wrong. The product code is EEEPC90012XPBLK, which is for the 900 12G, not the 901 12G as described in the specifications on that product page. It would make sense that they really meant to be selling a 900 12G for $448. This price seems too good to be true for a 901 12G and it is. I can’t see them charging $50 less than everyone else considering that Asus just dropped $100 off the price of the 901 (from $599 to $499).
Newegg and Target now have the 701 2g surf for $249. Starting to approach the promised $199 price point
Walmart’s prices are all over the place for the Eee PC. They’re selling the 900 20G (which they incorrectly refer to as the 900A) for the same $448 price as the 901 12G. For the 701 4G Surf, they’re asking $30 more than for either of the 90x series models — I guess they must be collector’s items to justify this higher price?
Also Newegg is selling their 1000h for $449 as well. It was such a good surprise considering I was on the prowl for a new laptop today and seized on the drop in price.
