Want a tiny laptop with an 8.9 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display and don’t care if it packs a 900MHz Intel Celeron CPU instead of a shiny new Intel Atom CPU? Asus is apparently hoping to move some of its Eee PC 900 inventory while at the same time differentiating the lower end PC from the newer Eee PC 901 model. The company is offering a $100 rebate to customers who purchase an Eee PC 900 between today and July 31st from participating retailers.
Right now it looks like you can get the rebate through Amazon and ZaReason. Or you can download the rebate form directly from ZaReason (PDF link). If you find any other participating sites, let us know in the comments.
With the Eee PC 901 selling for $599, a $449 Eee PC 900 looks like a pretty good deal. The “older” model has only been available for a few months. And while it doesn’t have a multi-touch trackpad or power-saving Intel Atom CPU, it closely resembles the Eee PC 901 in size and shape. And the 900MHz CPU is surprisingly zippy when performing basic tasks like editing Office documents or surfing web pages.
thanks Ari!

  1. This is soooo tempting! First I had my heart set on a MSI Wind, but then they broke my heart a couple times. Then I had my heart set on a 901, but ASUS has broken my heart by not making the 20G with Linux available until later.

Doesn’t the 901 also have the over/under-clock button that the 900 doesn’t have?

    1. >>>Doesn’t the 901 also have the over/under-clock button that the 900 doesn’t have?

Yes, it does. jkk has the 901 right now.

  2. Oh man. A frikkin REBATE?! That’s shuck and jive BS. Just CUT the damn price for everyone and stop looking like you’re trying to CHEAT people by hoping they fail to know about the rebate or fail to get it in on time or hope the fulfillment house just trashes them altogether. Asus should be better than this, dammit!

    1. The rebate ends at the end of the month, so presumably they will have new pricing by then.

      1. Or, they may stop selling 12Gs and 20Gs by then. It’s a roll of the dice!

    2. I am pissed. I just got a Eeepc900 on july1st, and Asus won’t do anything for me 🙁 I guess thats what I get for being an early adopter.

      Boooooooooo…..

  3. Looks like Directron (www.directron.com) is offering the $100 rebate on the older 900s as well.

    1. yea, the 900 does have the multi-touch trackpad. Really, the only difference is the Atom and the 20gb of online storage. Also, depending on which model you recieve, you could have a smaller (4400) battery as opposed to the larger one.

I wonder if you could get the rebate on one of the new 16gb 900s that are going for $400, bringing it down to $300. That would be the magical price point for the Eee.

      1. Hehe… that would be sweet, but the rebate form only lists the 12G and 20G models. The list prices for the 16G models are already price-adjusted going out the door, so they don’t need to offer a rebate as is the case for the older models.
