While some computer makers try to set themselves apart from the competition by offering additional features or a lower price, Amtek seems to be taking a different approach. On paper, the upcoming Amtek Elego PC looks pretty much like every other low-cost ultraportable:
- Display: 8.9 inch 1024 x 600 pixel CPU
- CPU: 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU
- RAM: 256MB to 1GB
- Storage: 2GB or 4GB SSD or a standard hard drive
- Connections: Headphone, Mic, Ethernet, VGA, 4 USB 2.0 ports, card reader
- Connectivity: 802.11b/g
- Webcam: Yup (1.3 or 0.3 megapixels)
- Size: 9.2 x 7 x 1-1.3 inches
- Weight: 2.1 pounds
So what sets this PC apart from the others? Its design. Its ugly, ugly design. According to Laptop Magazine’s Joanna Stern, it appears that the version destined for US shores sports a yellow and black theme.
Stern also spotted a unit at Computex in Taipei that had a wooden panel instead of metal or plastic. It certainly makes the Amtek Elego unique and distinctive. But sometimes when you come up with something that nobody else has done… there’s a good reason.
