HP may not include recovery discs with the HP Mini-Note, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. This morning I called HP support and after spending a few minutes on hold and being transferred a few times, I finally got someone who handles support for the Mini-Note. Apparently the folks who provide general technical support for HP laptops aren’t responsible for the Mini-Note. There’s a special division for that.

Anyway, the long and short of it is that you won’t hear the HP Mini-Note mentioned at all if you try to go through the automated voice directory system. So just go ahead and shout “agent” into the phone to speed up the process a bit. When you do finally get to the right person you’ll need to read off your serial number (which should be on the bottom of your computer). And that’s about it. Hopefully I should be receiving a SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop restore disc within a week or two. I don’t actually expect to use it, since I’m pretty happy with Ubuntu on my Mini-Note. But it’s nice to have options.

  1. It’s no wonder the price of the HP 2133 mini note book is dropping. It has poor resolution, the restore is on a partioned hard drive which when it’s needed is found to be corupt and yes when you try to get the disk that should have come with it your charged even more. Best to say good bye HP. I’ve had nothing but trouble with all that I’ve owned. I have a Sony that I’ve had for 12 years and not one bit of trouble. A bit slow now but never any problems.

  2. hello im RHENN i have an hp mininote running windows vista basic.this notebook doesnt come with recovery disk.it is possible to download recovery disk for this?or there is an alternative option to create recovery?ust like lenovo s10 they have installed on key recovery to create disk backup recovery

  3. Hi.., I’m Rodney and live in Costa Rica, I bought my HP 2133 last month with Windows Vista. I want to change to Suse. It is a beautiful machine. I’ll try with HP Support to obtain the cd.

    1. This is SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop, not OpenSUSE, which means it’s not
      free as in beer.

It may also include HP proprietary code. But it seems like a relatively
simple process to request a disc from HP. The company really should ship a
disc with the computer and/or allow you to download one from the support web
      site. But they don’t.
