Sun released OpenSolaris 2008.05 last week, and it didn’t take long for someone to try loading the operating system onto an Eee PC. Rolf Kersten says OpenSolaris won’t work perfectly out of the box, but you can make it work with a little tweaking.

For example, you’ll need to modify your GRUB boot command if you want the keyboard to work. Seeing as how the keyboard’s kind of essential for doing anything on your computer, that means you’ll probably want to check out Kersten’s detailed instructions before boting from the OpenSolaris LiveCD for the first time.

The Ethernet connection should work right away, and installing the WiFi drivers seems like it should be a snap. No word on power management and other featrues. And getting the Fn keys to work might take a little more work, but I’m sure someone will post instructions for that soon enough.
