German ISP 1&1 introduced a new 7 inch Android tablet called the SmartPad yesterday. This little guy isn’t going to be available outside of Germany anytime soon, and I don’t happen to live in Germany. But the folks at nDevil do, and they got to spend some quality time with the tablet.

Overall, nDevil reports the machine has decent build quality and a nice array of ports. But the slow processor, limited RAM, and older version of Google Android make it feel a bit sluggish. The pre-release model has just 256MB of RAM and a 500MHz CPU and runs Google Android 1.6. But an Android 2.2 Froyo update should be available soon.

Like most Android tablets, there’s officially no way to access the Android Market, but there is a 1&1 app store for downloading some third party apps.

The best thing about the tablet is that you get one for free when you sign up for a 1&1 DSL plan in Germany.

You can check out the nDevil hands-on video after the break.

  1. Sorry the Video is so dark and i say it is a capacative screen in the beginning, even though it is resistive.
The final version should be a bit faster when it comes out in three weeks, is what they told me.
