Onkyo introduces TV tuner-toting nettop, netbook

Onkyo is launching two new products in Japan. Both are smaller than a full sized computer. And both feature low power Intel Atom processors, TV tuners, and AM/FM radios. Unfortunately, neither will likely be available in the US anytime soon. First, Onkyo doesn’t tend to sell its products in the hemisphere I happen to call home. And second, the TV…

Bandai Namco Rilakkuma Netbook has more… personality than most

I can’t count the number of times I’ve looked at a netbook and thought, “You know what would make me like this computer more? If it looked like a Teddy Bear.” Mostly, that’s because I don’t know how to count to zero. But it looks like someone certainly thought it would be a good idea to turn a netbook into…

Asus Ee PC T91MT with TV Tuner unboxed, tested – Video

The Asus Eee PC T91MT 8.9 inch touchscreen tablet-style netbook has been available in the US for a few months. But there’s one thing you can’t get with the US model yet — a built-in TV tuner. Peter from Netbooked picked up a Japanese model recently that comes with a 1Seg TV tuner. For the most part, the T91MT looks…

Onkyo launches C411 Pine Trail netbook

The Onkyo C411 is a Japanese netbook with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor and GMA 3150 graphics. If that sounds like pretty much every other netbook on the market today, that’s because it is. But Onkyo has a few surprises up its sleeve with this model. The C411 also packs an integrated digital TV tuner and AM/FM radio. Rounding…

Hauppauge launches ridiculously small USB digital TV tuner

pctv picostick

Want a digital TV tuner for your netbook that doesn’t take up a lot of space? You have a few choices. You can order a netbook that has a tuner tucked away inside the case, like the Dell Inspiron Mini 10. Or you can get the smallest USB tuner you can find. And they don’t come much smaller than the…

$220 netbook with TV antenna, SIM card slot – in China

c200

Let’s be honest. Most netbooks on the market today sport the same specs. They almost all have 10 inch displays, 1.6GHz Intel Atom processors, 1GB of RAM, and 160GB hard drives. But a select few have additional features like 3G antennas, SIM card slots, and TV tuners. Of course, those extras will usually cost you… but not always. Enter the…

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 w/TV tuner reviewed

mini 10 tuner

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is the only netbook I’m aware of that comes with GPS and built-in TV tuner options. But is it worth shelling out the extra cash for those features? The folks at Laptop Magazine took a TV tuner-equipped Mini 10 for a spin. The verdict? It does a pretty good job of picking up TV signals,…

Hauppauge, MaxLinear to produce TV tuners for netbooks

MxL5007T

Semiconductor company MaxLinear is teaming up with Hauppauge Digital, a company that makes TV tuners for computers to produce… a TV tuner for computers. But what sets the new MxL5007T apart is the fact that it’s a minicard designed specifically for netbooks and UMPCs. The TV tuner can pick up ATSC TV signals (that’s over-the-air HD video in the US),…

Dell is finally shipping antennae to Mini 10 owners with TV tuners

Dell began offering Inspiron Mini 10 customers a chance to configure their netbooks with internal TV tuners a while back. There’s just one problem: the tuner is useless without an external TV antenna, and apparently anyone who received a netbook with TV tuner before June 24th didn’t get an antenna. According to some folks at the MyDellMini forums, it looks…

Dell ships Inspiron Mini 10 with TV tuners, but no antennae

See that picture above? That’s a picture of the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook with a TV antenna plugged into the internal TV tuner. Engadget snapped the photo a while back, and silly me, I figured it meant that Dell would actually ship the computer with this antenna… or at least offer it as an accessory on its web site….

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 TV tuner is a $20 upgrade… sort of

Dell

[/caption] As expected, Dell has begun offering an optional TV tuner for the Dell Inspiron Mini 10. And it’s kind of cheaper than expected… depending on how you count. The built-in ATSC tuner adds just $20 to the netbook price, but there is a catch. You’ll need to upgrade from the 1.33 GHz Intel Atom Z520 CPU to the 1.6GHz…

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 TV tuner option coming today

dell-mini-10-tv-tuner

When Dell unveiled the Inspiron Mini 10 netbook way back in January, the company promised it would have a few exciting options that you won’t find on most netbooks, like an integrated GPS receiver or TV tuner. But when the company actually launched its first netbook with a 10 inch screen several months later, neither option was anywhere in site….
