Asus netbooks to drop glossy displays for matte screens

Asus Eee PC X101

There’s a small but vocal subset of laptop users who can’t stand glossy displays. While they look bright and vibrant on a store shelf, these screens tend to reflect glare and turn into mirrors when you try to use them outdoors or even in an office or coffee shop too close to a window. But over the past few years…

Asus introduces Eee PC 1005PX netbook with matte display

Most of the 10 inch netbooks Asus has released this year ship with glossy displays. The recently introduced Eee PC 1005PX bucks the trend with a matte, non-glare screen which is a bit easier to see in direct sunlight. The display is the biggest thing setting the Eee PC 1005PX apart from the Eee PC 1005PE model I reviewed earlier…

Acer Aspire One 532 available in Germany with matte display

Most netbooks I see these days come with glossy displays, which look great indoors under most lighting conditions. But throw some direct sunlight on them, and the shiny screens effectively turn into mirrors. A handful of new netbook models including the Asus Eee PC 1001P and Samsung N210 are available with matte displays which don’t have this problem. And now…

Asus Eee PC 1005PE update replaces glossy lid with matte case

Asus is bringing out an updated version of the Eee PC 1005PE laptop. The new model will feature a new case design with a painted textured lid much like the one found on the Eee PC 1001P. In other words, goodbye glossy lid, hello fingerprint-resistant matte cover! Spec-wise, the Asus Eee PC 1005PE-PU27 is identical to the Eee PC 1005PE-PU17….

How to make your glossy netbook case matte

PC makers seem to love putting glossy lids on netbooks. And there’s a good reason for that: They’re sleek and sexy and look all kinds of awesome when you first spot the computer on a store shelf or take it out of the box. But give it a few days, and you’ll notice that your glossy lid is covered with…

Asus Eee PC 1005HA-M has a matte display

1005ha-m matte

I recently reviewed the Asus Eee PC 1005HA, and one of my only real complaints is that the netbook has a glossy, reflective display. This can be a problem if you’re outdoors or in a brightly lit area where the screen turns into a bit of a mirror. But as it turns out, there are three versions of the 1005HA….

University: Glossy displays could be hazardous to your health

One complaint I hear over and over from netbook users is that too many PC makers are adopting high gloss displays in lieu of matte screens. At first glance, these shiny, glossy displays can be quite attractive and offer vibrant color. But that’s when you use them indoors under exactly the right viewing angle. But if you take a netbook…
