Lenovo LePad goes under the knife, comes out in pieces

The Lenovo LePad Android tablet isn’t due out in the US until later this year, but it’s already available in China. The tablet features a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, a 1.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and runs Google Android 2.2. And now thanks to the folks at Chinese site IMP3, we know what the tablet looks like…

Lenovo Skylight to get a spec bump with dual core 1.5GHz CPU?

When Lenovo first showed off the Skylight smartbook earlier this year, the mini-laptop featured a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM-based processor and a custom Linux distribution called Skylight. After deciding to scrap the operating system and use Google Android instead, Lenovo put the Skylight on hold for a while — although it’s still due out before the end of the year….

Lenovo Skylight, IdeaPad U1 Hybrid on track to launch this year (with Android)

Two of the most interesting devices I’ve seen this year are the Lenovo Skylight smartbook and IdeaPad U1 Hybrid notebook with a detachable display that works as a standalone tablet. And while both will miss their original shipping deadlines since Lenovo decided to scrap the custom Linux distribution powering the devices and replace it with Google Android, it looks like…

Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid, Skylight aren’t dead yet

Lenovo may have put its innovative Skylight smartbook and IdeaPad U1 Hybrid notebook with a detachable screen/tablet on hold indefinitely — but it looks like the projects aren’t entirely dead. As the company hinted a few weeks ago, Lenovo is looking at Google Android as an alternative to the Skylight operating system that had been developed in-house for these devices….

Is Lenovo developing a new ARM-based mini-laptop?

Lenovo may have killed (or at least postponed indefinitely) the innovative Skylight smartbook. But that doesn’t mean the company’s giving up on ARM-based mini-notebooks altogether. Freescale Semiconducter is showing off a new ultraportable laptop prototype built by Pegatron and apparently slapped with some Lenovo IdeaPad branding. The machine has a Freescale i.MX515 ARM-based chipset with an 800MHz processor and hardware…

Goodbye Skylight OS: Lenovo Skylight and U1 Hybrid to use Google Android

First the good news: Lenovo realized that nobody wants to use a custom Linux-based user interface with virtually no third party apps on the company’s upcoming Skylight smartbook and Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid tablet/laptop device. So Lenovo is killing the Skylight OS project and will instead use Google Android on those two devices. Now the bad news: that means Lenovo…

Lenovo Skylight delay could be due to the iPad

Lenovo had planned to launch its first smartbook in April. The company showed off the 10 inch Lenovo Skylight at CES in January, and has been tweaking the thin and light machine with a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, 3G mobile broadband, and a custom Linux user interface preparing for launch. But a few days ago we learned that the Skylight…

Lenovo Skylight smartbook launch date pushed back to July

When Lenovo introduced the Skylight smartbook in January, the company said it would come to market in April. But Laptop Magazine is reporting today that it won’t be available in the US market until July. At first glance, the Skylight looks like an oddly shaped netbook with a large keyboard, enormous touchpad, and super-slim design. Instead of a traditional hard…

Lenovo Skylight pre-reviewed

The Lenovo Skylight is a smartbook with a 10 inch display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, integrated 3G and WiFi connectivity, and a custom Linux user interface designed by Lenovo. The company introduced the Skylight to the world at CES in January, but it’s not expected to start shipping until next month. But Singapore blogger Darryl Kang managed to spend…

How the Lenovo Skylight smartbook got its look

A quick glance at Lenovo’s Skylight smartbook is enough to tell you that it’s basically a notebook — but that it’s also a bit different from any notebook you’ve ever seen. While the Skylight has the same 10 inch display as most netbooks on the market, it’s super-slim, has an unusual curved shape, and a few distinct features including an…

First look at the Lenovo Skylight user interface – Video

I got a chance to spend some time with the Lenovo Skylight today. It’s one of the first smartbooks based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform. Thanks the ARM-based processor, the Skylight is ultrathin, fanless, and designed to get more than 10 hours of battery life. It also has an HD display and can play 720p video locally. But I found that…

Notes from the Lenovo CES press conference

Lenovo is pushing its Mobile Internet strategy hard at CES. We already saw the company’s new line of mobile PCs including the Skylight smartbook, IdeaPad S10-3t tablet, S10-3 netbook and IdeaPad U1 Hybrid laptop/tablet. But the company is also launching its first smartphone, which it’s calling the LePhone. Now, I don’t tend to cover smartphones very often because I prefer…
