Emtec Gdium Liberty 1000 now available for well under $300

gdium liberty 1000

The Emtec Gdium Liberty 1000 netbook is made from a different mold than most of the mini-laptops available today. I mean sure, it has a 10 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and it’s about the same size and shape as every other 10 inch netbook. But it shuns the usual Intel Atom processor for a 900MHz Loongson CPU and…

Emtec Gdium Liberty netbook on sale in France this week

gdium-paris

The Emtec Gdium Liberty netbook is set to go on sale in France at the Paris Fair this week for €349. While most netbooks available today feature Intel Atom processors, 160GB hard drives, and Windows XP, there are a few companies thinking outside the box. And few of them are further outside the box than Emtec. The Gdium Liberty netbook…

Emtec Gdium Liberty 1000 reviewed, stands out from the crowd

Every now and again I get tired of typing “1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, Windows XP, 1GB of RAM and 160GB HDD.” And then I stop and think, well at least the Emtec Gdium netbook should be available soon. Emtec’s first foray into the netbook space may look a lot like a typical…

Emtec Gdium coming to the US in Q2 of 2009 – Video

emtec-gdium-1

I got a chance to play with the Emtec Gdium for a few minutes last night at the ShowStoppers event in Vegas. And I have to say, it’s a nice looking little netbook with a unique design and a unique operating system. It’s launching first in Europe, and should be available in the US sometime around the second quarter of…

Mandriva Mini: Another custom Linux distro for netbooks

For the last few days I’ve been puzzled by a press release announcing that Mandriva had launched a new version of its Linux distribution specifically tailored for netbooks. Puzzled because for the life of me, I couldn’t find a download link. But after doing a little more digging (and waiting for Mandriva to post a more thorough release on its…

First look at the Emtec Gdium netbook with Mandriva Linux

The current crop of Eee PC killers all look an awful lot like, well, Eee PCs. They have Intel Atom processors, sizeable hard drives or solid state disks, and 9 to 10 inch displays. At first glance, the Emtec Gdium looks just like all the rest. But there are two major things that set it apart. First, it uses a…

Upcoming Emtec GDium ultraportable will run Mandriva Linux

Mandriva has announced that the Emtec GDium netbook will ship with Mandriva Linux. I kind of forgot about the GDium, what with all the excitement around the MSI Wind, Asus Eee PC 901/1000/1000H, and Acer Aspire One. But the Emtec GDium looks like an interesting machine with a 10 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display and a price tag around…

EMTEC EM-PC launch delayed, price denied

Remember how I told you the EMTEC gdium EM-PC would be available in Australia this July for $449 AUD? Yeah, apparently EMTEC isn’t so sure about that. The company tells Australian tech news site Current that the low-cost ultraportable laptop will be available in September, not July. It’s also possible that the $449 price tag isn’t set in stone either….
