The HP Mini 5103 is a (kind of) new business class netbook from HP. The machine is virtually identical to the HP Mini 5102 I reviewed earlier this year except that it has newer Intel Atom processors that can support DDR3 memory. Last week the HP Mini 5103 went on sale in Italy, and today it’s available for purchase in…

HP Mini 5103 business netbook in the works

HP appears to be preparing to refresh its business class netbook line with a new model called the HP Mini 5103. For the most part, this model looks like the HP Mini 5102 I reviewed a few months ago. But the new model will come with a choice of a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 or 1.86GHz Intel Atom N475 processor….

How much difference does DDR3 RAM make in netbooks?

Not much. Netbook makers are starting to ship netbooks with new Intel Atom N455 and N475 processors that support DDR3 memory. They have the same clock speed and other features as earlier Intel Atom processors. The only difference is that they use DDR3 RAM instead of DDR2. But what does that mean in terms of actual performance? Sascha from Netbook…

Acer Aspire One 533 with DDR3 memory coming soon

Acer is reportedly preparing to launch a new 10 inch netbook with support for Intel’s new Atom N455 and N475 processors. The biggest change is that these chips can accept DDR3 memory while all of Acer’s existing netbooks are stuck with plain ole DDR2 RAM. The folks at Macles note that the upcoming Acer Aspire One 533 also features shiny…

MSI Wind U160DX: Picture the Wind U160 with DDR3 memory

Intel is getting ready to launch new Atom N455 and N475 processors that are compatible with DDR3 RAM — but otherwise pretty much the same as the N450 and N470 processors you can pick up today. More computers with next-gen Atom chips spotted

Yesterday we spotted an upcoming version of the Toshiba NB305 netbook with a new Intel Atom N455 processor. The CPU is virtually identical to the Atom N450 powering most netbooks released so far this year, with one exception: It supports DDR3 1066MHz memory. But it looks like the Toshiba NB305 isn’t alone. Lenovo, HP, and Shuttle all haveĀ  computers in…

Toshiba NB305 netbook to get Intel Atom N455 CPU

We’ve been hearing rumors about a tiny little shakeup on the horizon for Intel’s Atom line of chips. Basically, the Atom N450 and N470 processors that power netbooks today will be phased out and replaced with Atom N455 and N475 chips that are virtually identical, but which add support for DDR3 memory. Now it looks like Toshiba has inadvertently confirmed…

Intel Atom refresh to bring DDR3 memory support

It looks like Intel’s new Pine Trail processors will be getting an update in the third quarter of 2010. But don’t expect a major change in speed, power consumption, or overall performance. The only real difference is that the new chips will support DDR3 RAM while the current Intel Atom N450 and N470 chips can only handle DDR2 RAM. Fudzilla…
