NEC LaVie Light 530 hands-on video

The NEC LaVie Light 530 is one of those netbooks that you just know isn’t going to be released in the US anytime soon. It might not even hit Europe. But if you’ve been lusting after this relatively mundane looking mini-laptop since it was announced earlier this year, you might want to check out the video after the break, courtesy…

ECS Olivetti netbook spotted in the wild

ECS is showing off a new 10 inch Olivetti netbook with a super-slim design. Netbook news got a chance to check the netbook out at Computex last week, and while it doesn’t look all that exciting on paper (1024 x 600 pixel display, Intel Atom N270 processor, 2 USB ports, 1.8 inch hard drive), it looks awfully nice on video….

Lenovo Ideapad U160 thin and light laptop spotted in the wild

The IdeaPad U160 is Lenovo’s sequel to the IdeaPad U150, which I reviewed earlier this year. Like the U150, the new model features an 11.6 inch 1366 x 768 pixel display, a full size keyboard, and Windows 7 Home Premium. But the recently introduced IdeaPad U160 will come with Intel’s latest generation low power processors, including Celeron, Pentium,. Core i3,…

The VIA netbooks of Computex 2010 – Video

If you live in the US, you might think that chip-maker VIA lost the netbook wars. In 2008 HP launched a 9 inch netbook with a VIA C7-M processor, and in 2009 Lenovo released a 12 inch mini-laptop with a VIA Nano processor. And that’s about it. Intel has pretty much dominated the ultraportable space with Atom and CULV chips…

Pixel Qi low power display power management demonstrated

OK, so you’ve probably heard of Pixel Qi’s display technology which offers the ability to toggle between a high power, full color more and a low power, high contrast mode that almost looks like an E Ink display. The advantages are the ability to see the screen outdoors, even in bright sunlight, and lower power consumption. But just how much…

MSI introduces two netbook concepts: MSI La Mode and Serene

MSI has quietly introduced two new netbook concept designs. There aren’t a lot of details about the MSI La Mode and MSI Serene at the moment, but here’s what we know: MSI Serene This model will be a fanless netbook using “MSI’s thermal technology” and heat dissipation. Because there’s no fan, the 10 inch netbook will be almost silent while…

Toshiba is showing off an updated version of its thin and light Satellite M135 notebook at Computex.
