Brad’s mobile reporting kit (CES 2012 edition)

mobile kit

I’ll be spending next week in Las Vegas covering the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show. Since I cover mobile technology on a daily basis, I figured you might want to know what’s going in my gear bag. As it turns out, this year’s kit looks an awful lot like last year’s. I’m still using the same camera, laptop, phone, and modem….

Brad’s mobile reporting kit (CES 2011 edition)

I’m on my way to Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show. While the show doesn’t officially kick off until Thursday, the first pre-show press conferences start on Tuesday and I’ll be there to cover news from Asus, Toshiba, NVIDIA, and others. Since I’ll be spending a week reporting from the road, I thought I’d share the mobile tech I’m…

Asus UL20FT, UL20A designs compared

The Asus UL20FT which launched recently is an updated version of the older Asus UL20A 12.1 inch notebook. But while the older model has an Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 CPU, the new model has an Intel Core i3-330UM processor. While the two laptops look virtually identical on the outside, the folks at Asus-Event have put the two side by…

Asus Eee PC UL20FT-A1 reviewed

I’ve been using the Asus UL20A-A1 as my primary on-the-go laptop for almost a year. This 12.1 inch laptop strikes just the right balance for my needs. It’s a bit larger than a typical 10 inch netbook, but doesn’t weigh much more. It has a high resolution display that doesn’t feel cramped. And its ULV processor and Intel GMA 4500MHD…

Asus UL20FT with next-gen ULV processor coming soon

Asus reportedly plans to update its 12.1 inch Asus UL20a notebook by swapping out the Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor for Intel’s latest ULV chipset. Details are a bit scarce at the moment, but SemiAccurate reports that the new model will be dubbed the Asus UL20FT and that it will be available with a choice of processors. The first option…

CULV, ION, or dual core Atom with ION?

3dmark06

I happen to find myself with a number of rather of interesting computers at the moment with a nice mix of the latest and greatest in low power, decent performance specs. So I spent much of the afternoon running benchmarks on the following computers: HP Mini 311 notebook with NVIDIA ION graphics and a 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU ASRock ION…

Brad’s travel tech

traveltech1

Some of you may have noticed I’ve been a bit quieter than usual over the past two weeks. That’s because I was visiting family in New Zealand. In case you were wondering, traveling from Philadelphia to New Zealand takes an awfully long time — about 25-30 hours one way. But thanks to a good book or three and some personal…

Asus UL20A review

angle3-small

The Asus UL20A is a 12.1 inch laptop that offers many of the advantages of a full sized notebook in package that’s not much larger than a typical netbook. It’s small, light, and gets good battery life compared to many larger laptops, but it offers significantly faster performance, better graphics, and a larger, higher resolution display than most netbooks. The…

1201n exc

The Asus Eee PC 1201N is starting to show up for pre-order from US retail web sites. This laptop will be the first NVIDIA ION-powered laptop from Asus. Unboxing the Asus UL20A 12.1 inch laptop

ul20a

The Asus UL20A is the smallest and cheapest member of the new Asus UL family. Like its big brother, the Asus UL30A, the UL20A has a chiclet-style keyboard, Winodws 7 Home Premium, and an Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 CULV processor. But this laptop has a smaller, 12.1 inch display, 2GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. The Asus…
