AMD C-60 netbook chip with Turbo Core coming soon?

AMD’s Fusion chips have made a little splash in the netbook and notebook markets this year, combining high(ish) performance graphics and low power processors onto a single chip to offer better-than-netbook performance at netbook-like prices. So far we’ve seen 4 different chips, the AMD C-30, C-50, E-240 and E-350. Now Macles reports that a new chip called the AMD C-60…

Acer Aspire One 522 netbook review

The Acer Aspire One 522 is the first netbook to ship in the US with a 10.1 inch display and an AMD C-50 processor with Radeon HD 6250 graphics. If it weren’t for the high resolution 1280 x 720 pixel display, you’d probably have a hard time telling this mini-laptop apart from any other netbook. It’s about the same size,…

Asus Eee Box nettops now feature AMD Fusion chips

Asus has added two new mini-desktop computers to its Eee Box line. What sets the new EB1020 and EB1021 apart from earlier models though are the AMD Fusion chips. The Eee Box EB1020 features a 1 GHz AMD C-50 dual core processor with AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics — the same combination powering the Acer Aspire One 522 netbook that’s…

AMD previews low-power C-50 Fusion chip for tablets

AMD recently unveiled a new low power chip called the C-50 for netbooks and laptops. The dual core chip has a TDP of just 9 Watts, which is comparable to the Intel Atom N550, but the C-50 also features high performance ATI Radeon HD graphics on the same chip. Now it looks like AMD is tweaking the chip so that…

AMD: More than 1 million Fusion chips shipped

AMD interim CEO Thomas Seifert says the company has shipped over a million of its new Fusion chips to partners including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba since launching the platform late last year. Those Fusion chips are low power Brazos chips which combine CPU and graphics onto a single chip. We’ve already seen a number…

Toshiba NB550D won’t be coming to the US

The Toshiba NB550D is one of the first netbooks to feature a dual core AMD C-50 Ontario chip with ATI Radeon 6250 graphics. That makes it an interesting test case for AMD’s new competitor to Intel’s Atom chipset, which currently dominates the netbook landscape. Details about the netbook are starting to emerge from Australia and Europe, but if you’ve been…

AMD could position its low power Brazos chips for use in tablets

When I spoke with AMD recently about the company’s new Brazos chips including the low power AMD Ontario and Zacate processors, the company made it clear that while there was nothing stopping PC makers from using these chips in tablets, they were really designed with low power laptop and desktop computers in mind. While most companies in the PC space…

Toshiba NB550D netbook with AMD Ontario chip hits Europe, Australia

There’s still no mention of the new Toshiba NB550D on the company’s US web site. AMD Ontario C-30 chip benchmarked

The folks at ePrice have posted some of the first benchmarks of AMD’s new C-30 low power chip. This is a 1.2GHz single core processor with AMD Radeon HD graphics. Honestly, I don’t expect to see many computers ship with the C-30, since AMD is really pushing the C-50 dual core version as more of a direct competitor to Intel’s…

Over the past week or so we’ve seen plenty of notebooks with 18W AMD Zacate chips announced, but the Acer Aspire One 522 is one of the few new computers to ship with AMD’s lower power 9W Ontario chip.
