The AMD Zacate E-350 chip uses 18 Watts and is designed as a low cost,  alternative to Consumer Ultra Low Voltage chips from Intel, but the AMD chips…

AMD Bobcat chips: Faster than a speeding Atom

AMD’s new 1.6GHz Zacate E350 chip is the first low power chip based on the company’s new Bobcat CPU core. It’s also the first APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) from AMD, which is a fancy way of saying it’s part of the AMD Fusion line of products which put the CPU and graphics onto a single chip. AMD plans to start taking netbooks seriously… next year

Intel, VIA, and ARM have been duking it out in the low power, low price laptop market for the past three years. And while Intel’s Atom chips are the reigning champs at the moment, Freescale, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, and a number of other companies with ARM-based chips could put a serious dent in Intel’s lead if so-called “smartbooks” with integrated 3G…

AMD to launch new low power chips for thin and light notebooks

amd roadmap

AMD is a chip maker that’s best known for making high performance processors, not energy efficient chips. And they definitely aren’t known for producing processors that will help a PC attain long battery life. While that’s great if you’re putting together a gaming rig or a home theater PC, it means that AMD hasn’t offered much for the low cost…
