Chinese handheld game console maker GPD recently made headlines by launching a crowdfunding campaign for its first Windows device. But the company also has a new Android-based model on the way.

It’s called the GPD XD2, and it’s expected to feature a 6 inch display with a 360-degree hinge, dedicated gaming buttons, and Google Android software.

There aren’t many details about then new device yet, but GPD has started sharing photos via Chinese social network Baidu, and since the device is basically a larger, updated version of last year’s 5 inch GPD XD console, it’s not surprising that the design looks similar.

The original GPD XD game console features a 5 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel display, a Rockchip RK3288 processor with ARM Mali-T764 graphics, 2GB of RAM, 802.11ac WiFi, and up to 32GB of storage (plus a microSD card slot.

GPD’s upcoming Win device features a 5.5 inch, 720p display, an Intel Atom x5-Z8500 Cherry Trail processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.

It’s not clear what kind of hardware we should expect from the new GPD X2, but according to at least one poster in the dingoonity forum, the X2 will not have the same processor as the GPD Win.

  1. Any new information on the release of the GPD XD2?
    It’s been a while.

  2. I’ve got a red xd, while it’s a very nice useful device, I really wish they’d lose the gloss, at least for the parts that you handle while using it.

  3. I hope this time for the New Version u dont have to root it to remove apps2sd Card… or they seeling it with already root on it.
it really sucks for newcomer Who never root something and that really fucks up If u buyd a 128gb Card But u cant Do nothing with it only for rooms /Musik /pic….

    1. If you buy pny microXD 128 gb and use android device to formatted it it will work. I am using it too problem. I own 2 red GPD XD ANF JXD S192

    2. Use PNY microSD XC I 128gb (green or black color) and formatted it using android device, don’t use Microsoft Windows OS to formatted, it will not work. It will work only on Andriod OS to formatted your new microSD. Windows OS will formatted but won’t work on GPD XD. I try different brand only Pny work most of the time. 95%. Sometime I get a bad one from ebay. That is why 95%. But once you get one that work it will last for a long time. I use PNY on all my game device like New model JXD 7″ s192 and NEO GEO X gold got it working with 64gb even though system only said it work up to 32gb. If no root the device all your buttons and Hapoy chick will not work so will.

  4. I am seriously thinking about getting GPD XD 2 if this new Android handheld gaming device support the latest Bluetooth 4.0 on Android then I will seriously spend $200 for 64 gigs internal storage I was very skeptical of getting the first one but it didn’t support Bluetooth so I hesitated to buy it this one looks really promising I just hope they make the GPU a lot more powerful specifically for gaming then I will be so happy you will have one happy customer and a gamer on the go

  5. Looks really good! And they finally got rid of that horrid bar with GPD XD name on it.

    1. What you’re looking at is a micro USB 3.0 it’s the same slot just like on your regular Android phone or tablet

  6. Looks like it has HDMI out. Hopefully it has Bluetooth as well. That would give it great value as a portable retro gaming console/TV box as well as a handheld gaming system.

I’m still torn between the XD, the new Windows one, and this.

  7. It would be great to get something with a really powerful GPU. I would love something like this to emulate dreamcast

      1. Reicast, it does perfect emulation of all games i’ve tried, but very resource demanding.

My Note 4 can play Shenmue 2 at around 20-28 fps, but dips below 15fps if you get lots of stuff on the screen.

Edit: I guess I should mention, don’t use the Reicast available in the Play Store, its a bad version. Do some googling, and find the better version’s APK

      2. I would recommend downloading reicast APK instead of the one on Google Play Store I still don’t trust those emulators on Google Play stores because Google intends to limit of how much copyright infringement you might provoke companies like Sony Nintendo to ban the Emulators just to let you know emulators are not exactly legal as of yet it’s still stuck between copyright infringement and legalizing emulators on Android so a lot of hackers make APK version of the Google Play Store version with much more better improvements thank God Android operating systems are open source you can seriously download save APK applications
