Lenovo now sells tablets with built-in projectors, allowing you to shine movies, photos, or other content on a screen. Don’t have a screen handy? Now Lenovo has a rather unusual solution: a designer jacket that serves double duty as a portable projector screen.

The Lenovo Screen Jacket has a colorful exterior and a white interior, along with a design that lets you unfold the jacket and attach it a wall, fence post, or other surface to use as a blank screen for a Yoga Tab 3 Pro with a projector.

Lenovo France is launching the jacket, along with Parisian fashion label Pantheone. It will be available with patterns from big name designers, including Janine Rewell, Yogo Honda, Felipe Pantone, and Jeanspezial.

Wondering how much screen space you get from a jacket? When its unfolded the Lenovo Screen Jacket becomes a 120cm x 60cm (47″ x 24″) screen, so it’s kind of like having a 52 inch widescreen display surface.

The Screen Jacket won’t be cheap though. According to MiniMachines, it’s expected to sell for about €350 ($383).

In other words, the jacket is about the same price as the tablet it’s designed to compliment. I’m sure Lenovo hopes someone buys a Screen Jacket, but their introduction is probably as much about marketing the concept of a tablet with a projector in it as it is about creating an actual accessory designed to be used.

  1. What if you mix it in the washing machine with ur red underpants. Do you call lenovo tech support to fix the magenta in ur screenable jacket.

    lel xD

  2. wow. wtf.

Who is going to spend €350 on a jacket for a €350 tablet that lets you project on to absolutely anywhere (where there is a chain link fence) providing you just stand there and hold it up, and ignore the fact that any white wall is already good enough, and end up with still a pretty small jerky image. I could see it working as a niche $10-20 china gimmick (and it probably already is), but not even Apple could sell this as a premium item.

Even as a marketing gimmick (which I really hope brad is right on) it fails, as its role is to highlight a deficiency of the projector idea– which I actually quite like, to be used within the home against a wall.

  3. Superfish, Bios with root-kit to install mal-ware and now this. Lenovo is on a roll. I suppose it never occurred them to just put the fold up screen in that massive size yet under powered tablet with a poor projector attached to it. Every time i am in the middle of nowhere in the dark and have to make a presentation i still glad i did not wast my money on this table and now i am glad i did not waste it on a really cheesy jacket.

    1. No 32-bit drivers, no user upgradeable SDRAM, no user serviceable batteries, proprietary power plugs, no local service (in my country), crap hardware quality overall. And NO software updates! Yeah, Lenovo = No-No these days.

  4. Because making a tablet sleeve that turns into a screen was way too easy….
The product designers in tech are just wasting oxygen. They can’t make a half decent tab, a sane watch, and nowadays they lost it even when it comes to phones – this includes pretty much everybody, Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Google, M$. It’s beyond shocking how terrible they are.
