SolidRun’s HummingBoard Gate is a single-board computer with an ARM Cortex-A9 processor, a starting price of $50, and support for more than 150 add-ons that let you attach a motor, clock, sensor, wireless card, or other hardware directly to the board.
Like other members of the HummingBoard family, the HummingBoard Gate has a Freescale i.MX6 processor, four USB ports, HDMI, and an Ethernet jack as well as a 36-pin GPIO header.
What makes the new model different is that it also has a native mikroBUS socket, which means you can easily attach any “click board” that’s compatible with MikroElektronika’s system.
This lets you attach boards to add motion sensors, physical buttons, temperature sensors, WiFi, Bluetooth or NFC, an infrared port, or other hardware without using one of the USB connectors.
The HummingBoard Gate is now available for pre-order, with prices starting at $50 for a model with 512MB of RAM and a single-core processor. You can also opt for models with up to a quad-core chip, up to 4GB of RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, an optional microSD card (there’s no built-in storage) and an optional case for the computer.
I like how it has so many accessories / options. It makes it very versatile and not limited.
I wish someone would make one of these affordable little boards with more than one REAL Ethernet port to use as an edge router.
Am I the only one who immediately thought that there was an issue with the HummingBoard after reading HummingBoard Gate? Damn the suffix “gate” being applied to everything to milk drama.
Haha! I hadn’t even thought of that.
Maybe they should have called it the HummingBoard Gateway… but the name’s already too long, if you ask me.
Yeah I thought the same thing.
It still sounds odd anyway, even knowing it’s not some sort of scandal.
