Nearly two years after introducing the original Transformer Book T100, Asus is launching an updated model of this low-cost, 2-in-1 tablet that can function as a notebook.

The new Asus Transformer Book T100HA features a 10 inch display and a detachable keyboard dock, like its predecessor. But the new model has a more powerful Intel Atom Cherry Trail processor, a USB Type-C connector, and it ships with Windows 10 software.

First unveiled in August, Asus Transformer Book T100HA should be available soon for $299 and up.

The original 10 inch Transformer Book offered a decent balance of price and performance thanks to an Intel Atom Bay Trail processor, long battery life, and the inclusion of a keyboard at a time when most companies were not including keyboard covers in the base price of their tablets.

Now Asus is updating the lineup with a new model sporting an Atom x5-Z8500 Cherry Trail processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.

The new tablet has a 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a micro HDMI port, microSD card reader, headset jack, and USB Type C 3.1 port (although the tablet uses a micro USB port for charging). There’s also a full-sized USB 2.0 port on the keyboard dock.

The tablet measures about 10.4″ x 6.9″ x 0.3″ and weighs about 1.3 pounds, while the keyboard dock is 0.4 inches thick and weighs about one pound.

  1. I see Asus UK only advertising 2GB and 64GB on the specs page – I fear once again the UK market is going to miss out (with the original T100, for ages we only got the low end 32GB version).

  2. If cherry trail = more battery life this would be really nice.
    Fuck windows 10 though

  3. This is the true all-in-one I’ve been waiting for. It’s a real shame that Microsoft weaponized Windows 10 and turned the guns straight at every single person and business that use this wreck of an OS. Still… love the hardware, just really hate the OS now. It makes my skin crawl.

  4. The T100HA is exactly what I need. Upping the RAM and processor for that price is great.

  5. Does everyone realize that the USB Type C port on this acts the same as a USB 3.0 port? Different connection but none of the exciting USB Type C features that you may have or will be reading about. No reference to Gen 1 or Gen 2, but Asus specs show Gen 1 which makes it meh. Brad you should start listing Gen 1 or Gen 2 because that’s the spec that really matters with Type C. If you said computer X comes with USB ports only? People need to know what kind of USB ports not just that it has some kind of USB port.

For a budget model that’s actually good… Most phones and Android tablets coming out with USB C are still using it with USB 2.0… So this is at least more than just a form factor adoption and is an actual USB C, even if still gen 1, port with USB 3.1 specification that is still limited to USB 3.0 I/O but should still support power currents of 1.5 A and 3.0 A over the 5 V power bus in addition to baseline 900 mA, for at least faster charging options… along with other advantages over microUSB…

The previous T100TA could take more than a few hours to charge and if gaming, or other heavy usage, it could still lose power while plugged in…

Anyway, no one should assume just because it has a USB C that’s automatically even a Gen 1 offering and I don’t expect any Gen 2’s until well into next year… Even the MacBook’s are still Gen 1 right now…

I’m quite OK with gen 1 speeds for now, but I’d really like the displayport out and charging from it, which is the case for both the macbook and the chromebook pixel. Really love the two-sided charging from the pixel too, really hope that becomes common.

I guess on the other hand though it allows there to be a (future) mainstream USB port on the tablet part, rather than a micro. And the flipside to the fact that the USB-C port here doesn’t (supposedly) do it all, is that there are separate charge, USB and display output ports on the tablet itself, which is pretty rare.. and I suppose better than the macbook approach at least!

  6. I don’t understand why all the cherry trail tablets and mini pc’s I’ve seen so far are limited to Wireless N? Seems like a big shortfall to me.

  7. I only wish they could have upped the resolution a little bit more. Would have been worth at least $50 more to me with an otherwise similar configuration.

    1. Me too. Another (full featured) USB C port and a full HD screen and this would be absolutely perfect for those without big processing needs (ie, most people!). Would happily pay another $50-100 for that.. why didn’t they make a higher res screen an option! But even a little more than the typical budget 13..x7.. and I would have given it serious thought, at 12..x8.. it’s a non-starter for me sadly.

Glad to see 2GB gone though, hope it signals the end of 2GB devices as anything but absolute bargain basement devices.

  8. 4GB / 64GB for 300? Including a keyboard? Finally a model I can actually consider buying.
