The OnePlus One was one of the best phones available with a starting price of $299 or less when it launched in 2014… if you could get your hands on one. OnePlus is a relatively small startup that wasn’t able to keep up with early demand.

Now you don’t need an invite to buy a OnePlus One anymore… but the phone might not be quite as attractive today as it was a year ago. So the company’s running another promotion: during a series of flash sales in the month of June, you’ll be able to save $50 and pick one up for as little as $249.

Update: OnePlus has decided to make the price cut permanent: you don’t need to wait for a flash sale to buy the phone for $50 off its original price.

OnePlus will offer a limited quantity of device at sale prices during each sale. A model with 16GB of storage will sell for $249, while a 64GB model costs $299. When each sale is done, prices go up by $50… until the next sale.

Here’s the schedule:

  • June 1 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
  • June 2 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
  • June 3 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
  • June 4 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
  • June 5 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)
  • June 6 – 2:00 GMT (10 pm EST -1 day)
  • June 7 – 12:00 GMT (8 am EST)

When the OnePlus Two launches later this year, the company plans to require invitations again. So while it’s likely there will be a better OnePlus smartphone coming along soon, last year’s model is still a pretty good deal… especially since it’s a lot easier to actually buy.

The OnePlus One features a 5.5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera, a 3100 mAh battery, and support for several different versions of Android 5.0 including Cyanogen OS 12 and OxygenOS.

  1. “When the OnePlus Two launches later this year, the company plans to require invitations again” — They need to cut out this stupidness, whats the purpose of offering a product, if it cant be easily bought.

  2. Well it makes sense to lower price since oneplus two is coming out.
But I would rather buy an asus zenfone 2 than another oneplus one.
Considering the asus Zenfone 2 is $199 for 16gb version.

    1. Yep. Unless you’re a Snapdragon groupie, the Zenfone 2 is a better value with top of the line specs and easy to get a hold of.

      1. There’s a lot more to a phone than processor speed, though. OnePlus One is a good bit thinner, which at that size could swing it for many potential buyers.

        1. Depends if a mm or 2 is a deal breaker to the buyer. For me, it isn’t. The ZF2 is also cheaper and has expandable storage. I’d imagine most who pick this up will prioritize thinness about the same as I would. Top 5, but not a make or break thing.

          1. I’m in the market for a new phone and 5.5″ is already stretching it. ZenFone is the heaviest and bulkiest of the three top mid-priced picks, which deters me, certainly. If you’re a gamer, then ZenFone is no doubt the top pick, but there’s screen quality, brightness, call quality, camera quality, battery life, software, etc. all to consider too.

They’re all good phones, of course.

          2. Yep, in the mid-tier market there is always a compromise to be made in one regard or the other. Just gotta buy based on what is important to you. Oneplus is a great phone.

      2. I was all on the Zenfone 2 bandwagon until I read the review. The camera is atrocious and the battery life is subpar. Just go read anadtech review. It still a good value but it’s sill very mid range.

        1. Battery life on 5.0 lollipop is a crap shoot atm on all phones. I’d wait for 5.1 before condemning it for good.

On the camera, the closest priced Android phone to the ZF2 with an above average camera will be the G3. Then the s6 or G4, but they are double the money at least over this phone. If a great camera is top priority, then you probably should look to spend more money and get something else.

  3. get a Zenfone,,this company is about playing head games with their customers
