The Asus Chromebook Flip is one of the smallest Chrome OS laptops to date, and it’s one of the few that you can also use as a tablet. The Chromebook Flip has a touchscreen and a 360 degree hinge that lets you fold the screen so that it’s back-to-back with the keyboard, allowing you to hold the 2-pound laptop like a tablet.
Asus and Google introduced the Chromebook Flip in March, saying that it’d be available this spring for $249 and up. Now a few stores are starting to take pre-orders for the convertible Chromebook.
Brent Sullivan noticed that CDW and Provantage have both posted product pages for the Asus Chromebook Flip with a Rockchip RK3288 ARM Cortex-A17 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of flash storage.
Neither store has the computer in stock yet, but it could start shipping in a few weeks.
Asus also plans to offer a $279 model with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
This isn’t the first convertible Chrome OS laptop to hit the market. Lenovo’s ThinkPad Yoga 11e Chromebook can also be used in notebook or tablet modes. But that model is bigger, more expensive (and probably faster) than the Asus Chromebook Flip. It has an 11.6 inch display, an Intel Celeron N2940 processor, and a list price of $459 (although right now it’s on sale for about $20 off).
is that a USB-C port on the side?
doubt it unless they add a controller to the mobo. RK3288 does not support usb-c but it does do hevc
USB-C is only the physical / electrical port specs… it’s wholly separate from the USB 3.1 spec, though their launch was done at the same time.
Nothing stops the port itself from being used with a USB 2.0/3.0-only controller, it will just be limited to those specs.
No, it’s not USB-C. That’s the charging port, using Asus’ proprietary rectangular plug.
Or you could just get the Nextbook flexx 11 from Walmart for $227, with an ips screen a proper quad core chip from Intel and a very flexible 2 in one design with a real operating system: Windows8.1/10! Juat saying….
If they could make this with 4gb ram and an atom processor and sell it for 350USD…
There is supposed to be a 4GB version for $279 (but still Rockchip, not Atom).
Except some people prefer Chrome OS over Windows
Except that it will tip over when you connect the keyboard to the screen.
It’s too bad it has Windows on it. Otherwise it would be a good deal.
