The Saygus V² is a smartphone that packs a long list of premium features into a single handset. The $599 phone has a 13 megapixel camera… on the front. The rear camera is a 21MP shooter. The phone has 802.11ac WiFi, wirelss charging, and 3GB of RAM.

But one of the most unusual features is the phone’s dual microSD card slots. Each can support up to 128GB of removable storage. Since the phone has 64GB of built-in storage, that means you can pop in two storage cards and carry around nearly 320GB worth of music, movies, or other data.

Saygus unveiled the phone at CES in January and started taking pre-orders a few weeks later. Now the company says the Saygus V² will begin shipping May 22nd.

Update: Or not

The smartphone features a 5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. It has a removable 3,100 mAh battery, NFC, Bluetooth, an IR transmitter, and a fingerprint reader. Saygus will ship the phone with Android 4.4 KitKat software, which may be the phone’s least impressive feature: but it’s one that could be addressed in the future through a software update.

Other features include stereo front-facing speakers, a Gorilla Glass 4 screen, support for auto-focus and image stabilization when using the front and rear cameras, and a dual LED flash for the rear camera, and MHL support for using the micro USB port as a video output.

The phone supports GSM networks, which means it should work with AT&T or T-Mobile in the United States, as well as mobile virtual network operators including Straight Talk and Cricket Wireless.

The Saygus V² is available for pre-order for $599.

It’s not the cheapest smartphone around, but it offers a lot of features you won’t find in the latest flagship phones from bigger brands such as HTC, Samsung, or LG. On the other hand, this is effectively the first phone from Saygus, so it remains to be seen whether it will live up to its promise.

  1. I can only wish this new entity all the very best in the world of customer focused outlook…and I truly hope they become the envy of all the mobile and tablet world…..I have a Samsung Note 3 and 4 and some Samsung tablets and I wait with baited breath for new stuff from Saygus in the way of tablets and phablets. ..I will wait a little while longer and get myself one of their phones once I have seen one in real life ….. Kevlar sounds great…an external battery charger will be great to have and easy access to reasonably priced rechargeable good and great quality spare batteries here in the U.K…..Waiting to read about the NEXT PRODUCT TO COME FROM THEM….HOPE IT WILL BE A TABLET OR A SIX INCH PHABLET PERHAPS WITH AN AMAZING SCREEN….but it is so good to see a micro sd card bus…I wished for this for nearly three years and now it feels good to see someone put it into real live action…WELL DONE….POWER TO THE PEOPLE’S FRIEND. Wishing you GREAT SUCCESS …ruffle some feathers and have some good fun.

    1. Not to worry …They will be the talk of the planet soon… but I hope that the micro sd cards will be easily mountable and removable too…but now I am becoming a little fearful that Google will try to stop this move by SAYGUS. I HOPE THEY DO NOT SUCCEED..

  2. To be fair, you only get 64GB for yout $599, the remaining 128GB could cost you another $200-250, and I’m really not convinced about the reliability of a 128GB microSD card formated to exFAT, because Android. Maybe ext4. Also a raid that would mount the two SD cards to the same mountpoint, who wants 3 different drives on his/her phone? Also a bigger eMMC would be faster.

    1. I agree, but would it not be a matter of time before someone works away around that and perhaps mod the drives to linc or act as one? Or one could be creative and define different uses for each drive. One for music, one for documents and one for pics of something like that. I don’t know, just thinking of the possibilities. Not buying one since it’s out of my budget and perfectly pleased with my note 3 right now.

  3. All well and good, but talk to the average teenage or twenty-something phone user and they’ll tell you they stream all their media content these days.

    1. Let them do that …but there are millions who do not and they value older tech .

    1. I confirmed through their new 24/7 costumer support that the phone will indeed work on Verizon out of the box.. They are just waiting to make it official.

    1. Huh? After you put a case on it there will just be a flat glass screen, like any other smartphone. Of course, you might have a hard time finding a case designed for this phone. 😉

  4. I preorder it for $549 but had to cancelled because they move the date to May 22nd.
