E Ink Holdings makes the technology used in eReaders like the Amazon Kindle. But for the past few years the company has also been showing off other uses of its ePaper technology such as smartwatches, or even electronic price tags for stores.
This year the company is showcasing a few new products at the Consumer Electronics Show including a slick looking wall clock, a conference room booking solution, and Prism: a new technology that allows architects and designers to incorporate colors that can change in a variety of ways.
For instance, the company is showing off a wall solution which features tiles which change color from white to pink to deeper pink in a way that almost resembles sun shining on water.
There’s also a table which changes gradually from pink to white and back again.
E Ink says the Prism samples it’s showing off right now are just prototypes. The company doesn’t expect to sell them directly to consumers.
But E Ink is hoping to work with designers to create products using the technology such as animated wallpaper or furniture that can change colors or display company logos.
Personally I just want one of those E Ink clocks though. It’s probably not actually any more useful than a normal mechanical clock… but they look really cool.
Nice idea
