Samsung is updating its line of thin-and-light laptops with a new Samsung Series 9 2015 Edition model sporting a 12.2 inch high-resolution display and an Intel Core M Broadwell processor.

It’ll be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show next week, but it’s not yet clear when or where the new laptop will be available or how much it will cost.

Update: It looks like the US version of the laptop will be called the Ativ Book 9 2015, and it’s expected to sell for $1200 and up when it launches in early 2015.

  1. seriously anything more than full hd on a laptop that is lesser than 14 inch is overkill and i presume this is an ips panel which increases power consumption at higher brightness. Samsung advertise up to 12h of battery live but you will be lucky if you get more than 10 unless one turn down the brightness all the way to the minimum. Also samsung should bring back replaceable battery i mean consumers don really care if that laptop is just slightly thicker since most laptops will replaceable batteries are thinner than an inch with the exception of gaming laptops. lastly, please please use amd carrizo ulv processors, not only is intel broadwell graphics vastly inferior but i mean do consumers really need that much cpu performance, i don think so graphics will be more important in the future.

    1. It is the same size and resolution as the note pro 12.2 so it is likely the same panel and will be ips

  2. Nice to see more high-end Chromebooks available, I was worried we’d be stuck at 1080 resolution until Google makes a second Pixel. 2560×1600, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, current-gen Intel GPU – just don’t price it super-high since we know Samsung can make most of the components in-house. This could be the Chromebook Pixel equivalent for people who don’t want to spend $1500 (but want current-generation processors) and don’t care about touchscreens.

Also, that thing looks crazy thin. Is it fanless, or what? If so, time to buy my first laptop.

    1. Where did you read that this is a Chromebook? The source link says it’s going to run Windows 8.

    2. Haha, even better that it’s a Windows notebook. Totally missed that somehow. Nevermind the Chromebook details, just a bunch of news blurring together for me.

  3. I like the dimensions and weight. I assume it’s fanless. Hopefully it doesn’t have a extremely bad thermal design like the actively cooled Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. Like Kyle says though, it’s likely Samsung will price this higher than most people would want to pay even for a “premium” device.

  4. I would be very interested in this if it were the right price. Knowing Samsung though, it will most likely start at like 2k.

  5. Poor consumers, everybody is trying to rip them off.
Core M is 281$ (hard to say how much less for big OEMs) and when you compare it in perf with Nexus 9 you realize how insane that is. Soon a 30$ mobile chip on 20nm will blow it out of the water but that doesn’t matter because they are being allowed to keep this ridiculous PC monopoly.

      1. Because they are comparable. There are apps on Android that can open and save photoshop files now that will be as powerful as desktop photoshop soon, there are 2d cad programs and vector drawing programs that will compete with illustrator soon. There is little to nothing software wise that will keep Windows with any kind of advantage and the processing power gap decreases exponentially year on year.
