Asus is preparing to launch its first smartwatch, powered by Google’s Android Wear software. It’s expected to be more affordable than similar devices from Samsung, LG, and others and we could get our first look at the watch at the IFA show in Berlin in September.

We’d seen reports that Asus would launch the watch in September. Now Asus CEO Jerry Shen is telling investors that the watch could make its first public appearance at the trade show which starts September 5th.

Shen isn’t revealing specs for the watch yet, but the company reportedly has big plans for wearables… eventually. The market for smartwatches is expected to be pretty small for a while, but Asus thinks it’ll grow in the next few years and the company is already planning to watch a second-generation smartwatch which will probably launch around 9 months after the first model.

Asus is also getting ready to update its ZenFone line of affordable smartphones with new models sporting improved memory, battery life, cameras, and more. We’ll likely see those phones early next year.

  1. I just read “Ass Smartwatch” – I think I need glasses. Or get laid. Or probably both.

    1. to my defence: It happened in my RSS feed, where the letters are quite a bit smaller.
