Dell’s Alienware division makes laptop and desktop computers aimed at gamers. While most PC makers have been putting an emphasis on thin and light computers in recent years, Dell pulled the plug on its smallest gaming laptop more than 2 years ago when the company discontinued the Alienware M11x.
Now the company’s taking another crack at the portable space with a 4.5 pound laptop featuring a 13.3 inch display, NVIDIA graphics, and other specs designed to keep gamers happy.
The Alienware 13 should hit the streets in November.
At launch the notebook will feature an Intel Haswell processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M graphics. Dell will offer a Broadwell option once Intel’s next-gen processors are available.
The entry-level model will feature a 1366 x 768 pixel display, but 1920 x 1080 pixel and 2560 x 1440 pixel options will also be available. The highest-resolution version will also have a touchscreen.
The laptop features 802.11ac WiFi, USB 3.0, room for up to 2 solid state drives and support for up to 16GB of memory.
Dell isn’t the only company focused on portable gaming machines. We’ve seen new models from Origin, CyberPower, Maingear, Asus, Aorus, MSI, and Razer recently.
My wife loves her Alienware piece but then again she doesn’t travel with it at all.
Still a great machine.
2 kilos is a fair enough weight, certainly better than whatever their previous offering was, the 14″ models were as big as a 15″ laptop and weighed 6 pounds/2.7kg which was well above the average for a portable gaming laptop. Glad they’ve finally fixed the situation.
I’d get one if it wasn’t so ugly. Not everyone who games like that gaudy look.
I know I sure don’t.
Ya, it’d be nice to see gaming notebooks that aren’t so ugly. 10 year olds aren’t the only ones who play PC games.
