Xiaomi Mipad goes on sale in China (and elsewhere… kinda)

The first tablet with an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor went up for order in China today… and the first batch of 50 thousand units sold out in minutes.

Xiaomi’s Mipad is a 7.9 inch tablet with a 2048 x 1536 pixel display and Tegra K1 quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 processor with 192-core graphics.

While Xiaomi isn’t officially selling the tablet outside of China yet you can order one from AliExpress or pre-order one from GeekBuying. But you’ll end up paying about $100 more than the list price.

If you choose to buy a Chinese version of the tablet you’ll also probably get a device that has Android 4.4 KitKat software but no Google Play Services or Play Store. Instead you’ll get Xiaomi’s custom version of Android called MIUI.

Other features include 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, an 8MP rear camera, and 2MP front-facing camera. The tablet has a 6700mAh battery.

Hey Brad, is there a Chinese tablet that one can order reliably with all the good specs at a decent price with English software and play store access? A review of a few viable candidates would be nice, at times it’s hard to see through all the different ones available if any have got the formula right!

This is the one, simply wait a month.

Spec-wise I agree but MIUI is nasty if you’re used to AOSP…

I don’t remember reading about plans to sell this oversea.

    • min009

All Chinese tablet has play store. There’s no way they would sell them to oversea without it. As for support, you need to head over to xda to see which one has a CM rom.

Beautiful specs, but will it be abandoned when production ramps up for the next model?
That’s the down side to these “chinatabs” -great specs on paper but no support.

What? Xiaomi ensures years of support and actualization, research before talking nonsenses.

He’s talking about warranty and customer support. If you break it, you have to ship it back to China.

I wonder how much it will cost when Nvidia rebrands it?

    • Someone from the other side

More importantly, will we get AOSP that route…
