Dell’s new 7 and 8 inch Android tablets with Intel Atom Z34xx series “Merrifield” processors were introduced in June, and now the first models are available for purchase in the United States.

The Dell Venue 7 features a 7 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display, a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z3460 dual-core CPU, and a starting price of $160.

Dell’s new Venue 8 tablet has an 8 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display, a 2.1 GHz Intel Atom Z3480 dual-core processor and a $200 price tag.

  1. the new dell ,has 1 gb ram and no gps the previus model had 2 gb ram and gps i just got the new model it runs slower im keeping my first venue and returning this newer downgrade model

    1. That’s interesting. I too was sort of dissapointed that it was downgraded to 1GB of ram. Running very little background apps, I found that there was only ~250mb of RAM left.
I was also told by a Dell rep that it would have a GPS, but nope.
The new processor is faster than the olver version though and the improved cameras are merely keeping up with times.

  2. I probably would have bought this and sold my G Pad 8.3 (I like the slightly smaller 8.0 size and the soft touch material on the Venue 8), if only it had 2GB of RAM? Everything else looks fairly good decent for a almost mid range tablet. Not sure why the RAM got cut. Dell always seems to mess up important details on their tablets. Loooove the Venue 8 Pro… with the Synaptics digitizer, haha. Come on Dell.

    1. Wait, the Clover Trail versions had 2gb of ram, what the hell happened to this new one?

  3. Dell has never had their act together when it comes to Android machines.

  4. Still waiting for the price of the Venue 8 Z3480… I wonder how this will perform against the new Nexus 8 tablet… I would suspect that the Nexus would have a better display. I suspect that Intel asked Dell to announce this now, as they probably lost the Nexus 8 SOC to Nvidia. Just speculation.

  5. Almost obsolete from day one, with Android L around the corner…will be abandoned like many other Android gear…Nexus products for me and nothing else unless they can guarantee a least 2 years of timely updates!

    1. Their current tablets were released with 4.2 I believe and have been updated twice. First to 4.3 and currently running 4.4.2 kit Kat.

      1. That’s good to know. Thanks! When did those tablets come out? I’d like to get an idea of the support period Dell offers with their Android devices.

I just have outdated info on Dell when it comes to Android. For example, when they came out with their 5″ screened phone years ago and was laughed at while 5″ is now considered a normal size.

    2. Dell did offer KitKat updates for their older Venue 7 models that were still running 4.2 Jelly Bean from the factory.
If Dell supports L, kudos to them.

  6. Dell 7″ = $149 on one page; click the link, it unsurprisingly jumps up to $159. Really, Dell?

    1. I think they’re still in the process of updating their website — the company’s blog post suggests the new Venue 8 is also now available, but the website only shows the older model.

$149 was the price for the last-gen model. The new version has a spec bump which more than justifies the $10 price increase. But it’s a bit sad that the website doesn’t show the new price everywhere yet.

      1. I am so glad you have confidence in Dell’s ethics. To me, it just seems like another bait and switch tactic.

          1. lol, pick one, is it a switch and bait or nickle and dime? Maybe you should just spend some money on tin-foiled hat if you think Dell business strategy is to pull a bait-n-switch their way to profit.

        1. As someone who literally works with Dell every day. This is par for the course with them. Their B2B web sites are notoriously bad and knowing how well they update them, they are incapable for “bait and switch” tactics. This is my shocked face that their web site isn’t right ._.
