Acer was one of the first companies to begin selling Chromebooks, and the company’s low-cost Acer C720 series of notebooks are among the most popular Chrome OS laptops. They regularly show up on Amazon’s list of best-selling laptops.

Now it looks like Acer is getting ready to launch its first desktop computer powered by Google’s Chrome operating system.

The Acer Chromebox CXI2610 features an Intel Celeron 2957U Haswell processor, 16GB to 32GB of solid state storage, and supports up to 8GB of RAM.

The desktop features Gigabit Ethernet, an SD card reader, DisplayPort, HDMI, 4 USB 3.0 ports, an audio jack, and a mini PCI Express slot.

It measures 6.8″ x 5.5″ x  2.25 and weighs 1.1 pounds.

Acer hasn’t yet revealed the price or launch date for its first Chromebox, but details showed up in a brochure of the company’s 2014 business products. The same brochure also spilled the beans about the company’s upcoming Bay Trail and NVIDIA Tegra K1-powered Chromebooks.

Other companies that offer Chromebox desktops or all-in-one PCs include Asus, HP, and LG. Samsung was the first company to launch a Chromebox, but the company doesn’t currently offer a Chrome OS desktop.

  1. So, the Google site only seems to have “Chromebox for Meetings” branding. Is that how they’re pitching Chromeboxes in general, or have they just not caught up with the reality of these new releases?

  2. Intel is the winner here. Many Chromeboxes choices, all with similar or identical CPUs. I used to want fanless, but a 15w CPU can give excellent burst performance… the fan is just there for the rare event that performance is needed for a prolonged period. I can’t believe that AMD has written-off Chromeboxes.

    1. i dont think the’ve wrote them off, i just dont think they’ve met with Google to make any, i would love a Kabini/Beema/Mullins Chromebook or a Kaveri Chromebox, and it might happen, i wouldnt say never until AMD says they’re never making ChromeOS Devices

    2. Unless there are some Chromeboxes with discrete NVIDIA or AMD GPUs, maybe they’re using Intel for making hardware support easier. Intel has pretty good open source Linux drivers for most of their chips: GPU, WiFi, Ethernet, etc.

    3. You can grab the one in aliexpress i supposed, with fanless i5-3317u.
a 17W with fanless. But don’t bang me if ur cpu get too hot 🙂

  3. i wonder the price of the CB5-311, im probably going to buy the Chromebook 2 13″, butnow this has come out ,the only thing stopping me buying this outright is that it looks janky compared to the CB2

  4. Interesting! I wonder why the dimensions are noticeably larger than the ASUS Chromebox?
