Chinese tablet maker Teclast’s latest device is one of the first tablets to ship with a Rockchip RK3288 processor. But that’s not the only thing that makes the Teclast P90HD tablet special.
It also has an 8.9 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel WXGA display, giving it even more pixels than an LG smartphone (although they’re less densely packed in the tablet).
The tablet is up for pre-order in China for ¥1599, or a little over $250 US.
It features 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, an 8MP rear camera, 2MP camera, and WiFi and Bluetooth.
The Teclast P90HD features Rockchip’s new quad-core ARM Cortex-A17 processor with ARM Mali-T760 graphics and the tbalet will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat software.
Rockchip’s new processor isn’t actually shipping just yet, but it should be available in a few weeks when the Teclast P90HD and a number of other tablets and TV boxes with RK3288 CPU are expected to ship.
What I really want to know is if these devices will be implementing the windowed tech rockchip showed off before. If so the set-top boxes could work as decent desktop replacements for many people (though by no means everybody). On a related note the Ugoos UT3 and UM3 based on the rk3288 seem to be in final testing and (from what I could understand from the subpar English) will eb available to their clients next week. I’m hoping something like this ships soon, I would like one of these set-top boxes from the post A9 generation with decent capabilities (the M.o.j.o was lacking capabilities due to software limitations but these should be comparable at a much lower price point.
That sounds pretty good. I also had a Teclast tablet, and on paper it was quite a fast beast with a friendly price tag. In truth however the eMMC was so amazingly horribly slow, that the tablet was downright unusable, it took 5 minutes to boot up. I don’t know if it was only my device, but I pay more attention to the eMMC now, the CPU, GPU and the RAM is not all that makes a tablet, you need some decent flash chips too.
You can see the RK3288 (test) board ready to work in 18 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2IwiSC72K4
I’m in the market for an rk3288 tablet, but definitely going to wait until the dust settles and the reviews are in. You are absolutely right that there is more to speed than just CPU/GPU. In addition to antutu I’ll be looking for androbench results.
Would be great if it had slightly thinner bezels, can’t find the dimensions for the entire thing but the screen is as wide as the 7.85 inch on the ipad mini or Xiaomi Mipad.
