MSI ProBox23 is a barebones, Haswell mini PC

MSI is launching a tiny, barebones desktop PC with support for some pretty impressive internals. The MSI ProBox23 should be available later in April, and it features a Mini ITX board with support for an Intel Haswell processor.

The system will support up to 16GB of RAM, up to 3 internal storage devices, and has plenty of ports for extra peripherals.

The MXI ProBox23 features 2 SATA III 2.5 inch drive bays, a connector for an mSATA drive, and a mini PCIe slot which you can use for an optional WiFi card.

On the outside you’ll find an HDMI port, an eSATA port, 6 USB 2.0 ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as Gigabit Ethernet, line, and mic jacks.

The system can support 4K Ultra HD video output and supports Intel Pentium Core i3, Core i5, or Core i7 Haswell processors with a max TDP of up to 65 watts.

MSI’s system is small enough to attach to the back of a monitor using a VESA mount. The ProBOX23 measures 8″ x 8″ x 2.1″and weighs about 2.5 pounds.

hmm, with only hdmi out, it appears to be targeting the HTPC crowd. I just built my own using a MSI mini-ITX board for around $200 in parts (had ram and hd already). If they price this right it could be a great option, nice looking box, although if they are targeting that crowd in IR receiver would be a nice thing to have.

If I am going to use an external power supply, I would rather chose my own itx board and use an Antec isk 110.

Good for you but this is likely targeted towards people who would rather buy a pre-built box and maybe are willing to open it up for minor upgrades. I know plenty of people who design PCBs/PWBs, cases and do software/firmware programming for the devices for a living but buy pre-built PCs for home use. Just not worth their time to choose parts and slap them together.

the cpu, memory, hard disk, ssd, optional wifi pcie card, and operating system all sold separately. How is this a “pre-built box”?

well, the motherboard is installed :) LOL I’m with you, my htpc is in the Antec isk110 case.

Especially since the Antec ISK 110 is a total PITA to build with
