Foobar2000 is one of the most popular music players for Windows PCs. The free media player has a simple but customizable user interface, support for a wide range of audio codecs, CD ripping, keyboard shortcuts, and more.
Now the developers want to bring foobar2000 want to bring their software to mobile devices. They’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise at least $100,000 to help fund development of Android, iOS, and Windows Phone apps.
The team originally tried to fund the software with a Kickstarter campaign, but canceled the project due to low participation. Now they’re trying to do things on their own with campaign at mobile.foobar2000.com.
While that doesn’t bode well for hitting stretch goals, if the team manages to raise $300,000, the plan is to also developer a cloud-based service that would let users manage their music libraries from a central location and keep things synchronized across devices. Cloud foobar2000 would support desktop and laptop computers, network-attached storage devices, cloud storage such as Dropbox and Google Drive, and more.
Foobar2000 is a great app for desktop media management. But there are a number of great music apps available for mobile devices, which could help explain why the Kickstarter campaign didn’t generate a lot of contributions in its first few days.
