There was a time when Acer’s Android tablet lineup included premium models with high-resolution displays, speedy processors, and other high-end features. These days it seems like Acer is taking a different approach and aiming low.

The company introduced a $130 tablet called the Iconia B1-720 in January, and now it looks like another low-end model is on the way.

A budget Android tablet called the Acer Iconia One 7 passed through the FCC this week.

Update: It looks like there may be multiple models. In addition to the ARM-based version featured below, a second model with an Intel processor hit the FCC recently.

The tablet also showed up the the FutureMark benchmark site recently and received some coverage from Taiwanese press in February. So we have a pretty good idea of what to expect:

  • 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel TFT LCD display
  • 1.5 GHz VIA WonderMedia WM8880 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU
  • ARM Mali-400MP2 graphics
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB storage + microSD card slot
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 802.11n WiFi (no Bluetooth or GPS)
  • 1.9MP rear camera and 0.3MP front camera
  • 3000mAh battery

US pricing hasn’t been announced, but based on the specs and overseas pricing I’d expect to see the Acer Iconia One 7 sell for somewhere between $99 to $149.

  1. because the iconia one 7 have 16gb memory ? here in brasil he just have 8 gb ? this is my question?

  2. 802.11n WiFi (no Bluetooth or GPS)
That’s the most telling stat, and why this should sell like hot cakes. Pick the bones out of that NSA.

  3. it’s pretty funny that this budget tablet is better than my first tablet

    1. Depends on how far back you’re going. My first was a nokia N800. Redefine pokey!

  4. I felt a deep sadness when i saw the inclusion of a WM8880 processor.
