NVIDIA’s first foray into the Android tablet space left a bit to be desired. Sure, the Tegra Note 7 has a speedy processor, support for digital pen input, and a low starting price of $199. But it also has a 7 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, which feels so 2012.
It looks like that could change when tablets based on the company’s new Tegra 1 chips hit the streets.
NVIDIA has been showing off demos of its Tegra K1 chip handling complex graphics calculations this week. But it looks like the company is also providing details for a Tegra K1 reference tablet to potential partners.
The Tegra K1 reference tablet has a 7 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display and 4GB of RAM.
There are plenty of other tablets with high-resolution displays on the market at the moment, but the increased screen resolution would be a big jump from the 1280 x 800 pixel screen in the current crop of Tegra Note 7 tablets.
Interestingly, NVIDIA’s new reference design uses the same case as the Tegra Note 7, suggesting that the company’s new chips offer higher performance without generating significantly more heat or taking up more space.
If tablets with the K1 chip hit the streets soon they could also be among the first devices with ARM-based chips and 4GB of memory.

Hi…
I required a tablet which have atleast 4 GB Ram with 32 GB Memory and 1 GB Graphic Card. Plz suggest.
Nvidia, you are making me throw my pc and consoles out!!!!!!!damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Battery life would be bad if they kept it at the 4000mah mark really I think they should make it 5mm thicker and put like 3 more battery’s in
too bad it runs android. lag city………
Not really, its the hardware developers messing with android that ruins it. Vanilla android is insanely stable, fast and smooth.
Well google, samsung, asus etc picked qualcomm’s snapdragon over T4 for a number of concerns one of which power consumption… T3 itself is quite a batt guzzler for the processing power it has.
Plus, nvidia support towards android isnt great as some developers, hackers and tweakers seem to know the chips and what would be better for it much more than Nvidia. Qualcomm on the other hand, got the software-hardware right from the first time. Tegra doesnt do that well in real world gaming even until this point of time, developers dont seem to care about ‘THD / Tegra Optimization’. Dont see how that will change with K1.
Not a fanboy of any manufacturer but just sayin nvidia has to buck up before being the next blackberry.
Agreed. Nvidia has great ideas, logic and innovation behind their chips. Yet somehow the implementation of all that doesnt seem to satisfy developers and device makers. Until they can get the implementation right for developers & end users they’re just on their own weed being pretty oblivious towards what the market needs. They seem like they are trying to create a really specific GPU-crazy market instead of an all rounded chip
This is Tegra 5 aka Logan based on Kepler arch. equal to full CUDA support,OpenGL 4.3 equals battlefield 3 level games finally to tablets!
open GL 4.4
But better baterry needed and LTE ..need 10hour video or browsing.. Price max 299 USD
Now this new Tegra Note 2 is worthy competitor for Google Nexus 7….if price same $199 this is sure winner – I hope Nvidia does not pull an Apple Retina price on us for this new tablet….$399 will be too much for this… lol
$399 would actually be a fair price for a tablet that is as bleeding edge tech as it is. I mean 4gb of ram is insane. Throw in lte and you got a bad little machine.
any infos about the NVIDIA SHIELD 2 ? K1 powered ? KitKat ?
Thanks 🙂
Don’t forget that the Tegra Note 7 only has 1 GB of RAM. The screen resolution and RAM were the two big let-downs of the Note 7, on paper at least. This tablet looks much better. I hope they actually make it.
