The Samsung galaxy Tab 3 Kids tablet is a 7 inch tablet with kid-friendly software and a bright orange protective case. In terms of hardware, it’s basically identical to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 tablet which sells for $179, but the Kids version has a list price of $230 (although Amazon is offering a discounted model for $210 and TigerDirect has one for $190).

I guess the extra cash helps pay for the case and maybe a little peace of mind — parents can choose appropriate apps for their kids and use parental controls to limit the amount of time spent with the tablet.

Parents can also enter a password to transform the tablet into a full-fledged Android device with full access to the Play Store.

In other words, you can let your kids use the table tto play games, do a little digital scribbling, or read eBooks. But you can also use it to stream videos from Netflix or HBO Go, shoot up zombies in Dead Trigger 2, or do just about anything else you could do with a normal Android tablet.

The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids features a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. It runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software and in adult mode it has the Samsung TouchWiz user interface.

There’s a microSD card slot, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, and a 3MP rear camera.

  1. Maybe offer those bumper cases in different colors for the regular models too?
