Oregon Scientific is updating its kid-friendly tablet lineup. Last year the company launched an Android tablet called the MEEP with a 7 inch screen, modest specs, and access to educational software for young folks.

This year’s model is called the MEEP! X2, and it appears to be better in just about every way. It’s available from Toys R Us for $150. That’s the same price last year’s model costs when it launched, although now you can pick up a first-generation Meep tablet for $100.

The MEEP! X2 features a 7 inch display, a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, WiFi, Bluetooth, 4GB of built-in storage space, and a microSD card slot for extra storage.

There are front and rear cameras and an HDMI port for connecting to an external display.

The tablet runs Google Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but it features a custom user interface aimed at kids, parental controls and monitoring software, and the MEEP Store with access to pre-screened books, games, videos, and other age-appropriate content.
