UK retailer Tesco is getting into the budget Android tablet game with a 7 inch model called the Tesco Hudl. Priced at £119, or less than $200 US, it actually looks like a reasonable alternative to budget Android tablets from Asus, Google, Amazon, and others.

The Tesco Hudl features a 7 inch, 1440 x 900 pixel display, 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, up to 9 hours of battery life, 16GB of built-in storage, and a microSd card slot. Tesco says the Hudl should get up to 9 hours of battery life.

The tablet runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, features WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS, and has a micro HDMI port. Since this is a Google certified device, it’ll come with the Google Play Store and other Google apps including Gmail and YouTube preloaded.

It’ll be available in black, blue, red, or purple.

It’s nice to see another low-cost tablet with a screen resolution higher than 1280 x 800, although Google and Asus have set the bar pretty high with the 2013 Nexus 7 tablet which sells for $229 and features a 7 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel screen.

  1. Initial reviews say it’s quite slow. No mention anywhere of the cpu manufacturer, but I’m guessing mediatek.
Only 1GB ram too. Probably not going to help things.
