Panasonic is set to become the first company to offer a 20 inch tablet with a 3840 x 2560 pixel display, Windows 8 Pro software, and support for writing or drawing with a pressure-sensitive digital pen.
The company started showing off a prototype in January, and now the Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT-MB50 is set to hit the streets in November. It’ll carry a hefty price tag though. It’s expected to sell for €4,500 and up. That’s about $6000.
The Standard version is a 5 pound device that will ship with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive, while a higher-priced (and heavier) Performance model will feature 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and will weigh in at 6 pounds.
Users will also be able to upgrade the Standard model to 8GB of RAM or the Performance version to 16GB.
While both models are heavier than your average tablet, they’re also much bigger. Panasonic actually did its best to keep the weight down with a fiberglass case. It’s also a fairly rugged device, as you might guess by the Toughpad moniker. Panasonic says you can drop the computer about 2.5 feet without killing it.
