More details about Acer’s new Chromebook are emerging. The 11.6 inch Chrome OS laptop is expected to have an Intel Celeron 2955U Haswell processor for better performance and longer battery life than earlier models.
Now it looks like Acer will also offer a range of options, including support for up to 4GB of RAM and an optional touchscreen.
Fredrik Linnander got a chance to check out some of the new Acer C720 Chromebook recently, and he’s posted some details (and photos) to Google+.
Acer will reportedly offer models with 2GB or 4GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, and an optional touchscreen. That would make the second Chromebook to feature a touch panel. The first is Google’s Chromebook Pixel, which features excellent build quality, a high-resolution display, a speedy processor, and a touchscreen. But the Pixel also has a high starting price of $1299. Acer’s Chromebooks tend to be much cheaper.
All models will have 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel displays, HDMI, USB 3.0, and SD card slots, a 720p webcam, and 802,.11a/b/g/n WiFi.
The notebook measures 11.3″ x 8″ x 0.75″ and weighs about 2.9 pounds and features a 45 Whr, 3950mAh battery which should provide around 6 hours of battery life.
Unfortunately neither the RAM nor the battery are user replaceable.

Will this be able to dual boot Lubuntu or other *buntu LINUX as well?
As I mostly use those applications available from those repositories…
If it can do 4gb ram/32gb storage/ and a touchscreen for $350, then it would be worth buying. Otherwise you would be better off with something like an asus vivobook which can be had for around $400.
Not user upgradeable = more expensive for simple upgrades
I could care less if they offer touchscreens. But I do care a lot if they happen to offer one with an IPS panel.
Agreed, just give me a better quality display. If I wanted a touchscreen, I would have bought a tablet.
Hopefully this means we’ll be given a variety of custom options, instead of a choice between high end and low end models. I would love to have 4G RAM, but assuming the offer stands for 100G Drive storage and if my 1st gen nexus holds up a little longer, I would need neither the 32G SSD nor the touchscreen.
Or I could hold out for news of the Toshiba specs 🙂
