The Hisense Sero 7 Pro was already probably one of the best tablets you could buy for under $200 when it launched earlier this summer for $149. Now it’s an even better deal: the Walmart price has dropped to $129.

Hisense has also slashed $20 off the price of its cheaper tablet. You can now pick one up for just $79.

The Hisense Sero 7 Pro features a 7 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, a 1.3 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. It has a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera and features HDMI output and a micro USB port.

The tablet runs Adroid 4.2 Jelly Bean, features WiFi and Bluetooth, and Hisense says you should be able to get up to 10 hours of battery life.

In other words, it’s sort of what you’d get if you took a 2012 model Google Nexus 7, added HDMI output, a rear camera, and a microSD card slot, all while reducing the price dramatically.

Hisense dropped the price after the tablet had been on the market just a few months — but it’s interesting to note that the price cut comes just days after the Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 tablet went on sale in the United States.

That’s a tablet with very similar specs, and a $149 price tag. After the recent price drop, the Hisense Sero 7 Pro is $20 cheaper than the new Asus tablet, which still makes it arguably the best Android tablet you can buy for its price.

Bargain hunters might be tempted to check out the $79 Hisense Sero 7 LT tablet. It has a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, a Rockchip RK3066 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage, a microSD card slot, WiFi, and a front-facing VGA camera,.

It lacks a rear camera and Bluetooth and gets about half the battery life of the Pro model. If you can afford the $129 Hisense Sero 7 Pro, it’s a much better deal.

  1. Should I buy the Sero 7 Pro? ‘Cos I know it has loads of extra features like the SD Card Slot and the Mini-HDMI but are games, music and video playback good with the Quad-Core Processor?

  2. I had some bad experiences with the HiSend Sero Pro as I bought three of them and several ports went bad on all of them within weeks of purchase and also constant shut down problems. The Quality production is simply not there, Go with any other brand name instead.

  3. Availability in Canada would be nice, but no sign of it at Walmart Canada 🙁

    1. I agree 100%. I’ve emailed Walmart Canada and USA as well as Hisense USA and no one replies…

      1. Let us know if you get a reply — though I am not holding my breath :/

        1. I also sent a message to Hisense and got no reply. As for me, I’ll buy one when I’ll be in NH at the end of November. It just sucks that if there’s a problem, I’ll have to wait until I go back to the US to get it solved though…

          1. Hi GuLab, I sent a message to Hisense and did get a reply:

Our tablets are only available in the USA, at Wal-Mart

They are not concerned at all about more possible business. I wonder what that says about how they stand behind their warranty. Sounds like we would be screwed!
If you find a better 7″ tablet would you mind letting me know. Thanks.

    2. that’s annoying because its meant to be such a great bargain tablet!
I wish you the best of luck getting your hands on one.

  4. Great bargains Brad. Wow!!

I’ve had the Sero 7 Pro a little over two months, since the first weekend it was available, and strongly recommend it. They pushed out an OTA about two weeks ago which improved both battery life and responsiveness; it wasn’t slacking before and just seems smoother and snappier now. The OTA took it to Android 4.2.1 and HiSense Support has said 4.3 will be coming this fall. With one update on the street already I have confidence that will be coming too.

Go buy one – Walmart has a 14 day return policy. And, while your at it, get the extended warranty, which is only $15 on electronics under $150. Never thought I’d sound like a shill for Walmart but I’ll wear this one – its a good deal.

Paying $100 for the increased resolution of the Nexus 7 second generation is a pretty tough sell when this performs so well. Not to mention losing hdmi and the SD-card (but, I don’t really use the hdmi now that I have Chromecast)

Hope Hi-Sense comes out with a Sero 10″ version too.

    1. I’d go for a Sero 7.2 with Miracast support, 2GB RAM and 16-32 GB (preferably 32GB) internal ROM as well as keeping the microSDHC slot (may as well make it XC). Bumping Bluetooth to 4.0 with the APT-X audio codec would make me purr like a kitten. If they rolled these features out to a Sero Pro 10 then that would go well too.

Keep NFC, GPS, the camera specs are fine if they can fix the colors via software update (I think they’ve done this if I’m not mistaken). Keep micro HDMI out too. I could handle a price bump up to $200 if the RAM and ROM were increased. Too bad a tablet maker can’t source out the speakers that the BlackBerry PlayBook uses and design them as the PlayBook did as front facing (front firing). Having speakers on the back or bottom of a tablet is really stupid engineering.

Screen res is eye candy but not really required on a 7″ tablet. Then again, I’ve never seen super high resolution on a tablet in person yet…

  5. When the page first loads it displays a price of $129 but then it immediately jumps back up to $149. Wonder what’s up with that?

    1. Try another web browser? It’s consistently showing $149 for me. Maybe there’s some sort of caching/cookie issue with your browser.

      1. Thank you. It started showing the $129 price consistently on its own without the cookie/cache clear after about a half an hour. Maybe they were in the process of changing the price when I was first looking. It was the same behavior with either Firefox or Chrome. The Hisense Sero 7 Pro is an awesome deal but I am drooling over the new Google Nexus 7 specs. Decisions, decisions.

  6. OK, they just need to echo this in the UK (ebuyer.com, our main dealer for the brand, have had it on about £10 discount for the last month, but this sounds like something potentially a bit more aggressive) and it’s mine….. Still £139 ($215) here, and tempting even so.
