At first glance, the EPICT EPP-100 looks like just another pico projector. It’s a tiny device that can project an image onto a screen or wall. But inside the 2.7″ x 2.4″ x 2.2″ case are the guts of an Android smartphone or tablet.

In other words, once you connect a mouse, keyboard, or other peripheral you can use the EPP-100 to surf the web, watch videos, play games, or run any Android app while using your wall as the display.

EPICT EPP-100

The EPP-100 isn’t a very good projector, nor is it a top-of-the-line Android PC. It will work best in a dimly lit room, and may feel a bit sluggish at times thanks to the relatively low power processor and limited RAM.

That said, there aren’t a lot of other devices like this in the market, so if you’re looking for an extraordinarily portable tool for giving presentations, watching videos on the go, or other basic tasks, the $221 asking price might not seem unreasonable.

PandaWill is taking pre-orders for that price, and expects to begin shipping the EPP-100 at the end of August.

The EPICT EPP-100 features an Allwinner A20 ARM Cortex-A7 dual-core processor with Mali 400 MP2 graphics. It runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage.

There’s also a microSD card slot which lets you add up to 32GB of storage. The device has a USB 2.0 port and a micro USB port, a headphone jack, and 802.11b/g/n WiFI support. It also supports Bluetooth.

The 35 Lumen projector has a native resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

  1. I think it sounds really cool. I think it has a very futuristic look to it. Perhaps it will lead to more powerful ones in the future? I think the price would be the determining point.
I can see it being used when camping or travelling and don’t want to carry a lot of equipement.

  2. Amazon lists a 3M mini-projector bundled with a Roku Stick for $210. You can plug an Android HDMI stick into one of those. For all I know there might be a cheaper price for it without the Roku bundled in.

  3. even if this is magically really cheap, I don’t think anyone will want one due to the low ram, except for extremely special use cases.

If this was a modern quad core android on a stick, shoved into a pico, then I could see a market, because at least modern a-on-s can handle standard tasks well, but even then anything over the $200 price point makes it hard to swallow.
