Google is rolling out a new service for Android users that lets them find a lost or missing phone. It’s called Android Device Manager, and it’s basically a website that lets you find your missing phone on  map or send a command to your phone to make it ring so you can find it if it’s stuck behind the couch cushions, or hanging out in your other pair of pants.
Google is hardly the first company to offer this kind of tool. Apple’s Find my iPhone service has been around for years, and there are even a number of third party Android apps such as Lookout and Cerberus that help you locate a missing phone. But it’s nice to have an official Google tool.
You can also use the service to remotely wipe the data from your device as an extra security measure.
Android Device Manager will roll out later in August, and it’ll be available for devices running Android 2.2 or later.
You won’t need to install anything on your mobile device in order to use the service. It’s part of the Google Play Services app that’s already on your device, and which is updated by Google automatically. All you need to do is login to the website with your Google ID to use Android Device Manager.
There will be a mobile app, but it’s designed to let you find and manage your devices. You don’t need to install it on your device to locate your phone or tablet if it goes missing.
I don’t need an ‘App’ to find my TRACFONE… I just use another phone.
I WOULD like something to make my Nexus 7 ‘sing’ when I’m looking
upstairs/downstairs…
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
