Kobo has been offering Android tablets for a few years. But up until recently, the eBook seller’s tablets have been far outclassed by offerings from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The most recent Kobo tablet, the 7 inch Arc is actually a decent value at $200 (or at least it was when it launched last year), with a reasonably fast CPU, a decent screen, and full support for the Google Play Store.

Now it looks like Kobo may be stepping up its game again with a new model featuring a higher-resolution display and a faster processor.

Last month an unannounced tablet called the Kobo Arc 10 HD showed up at the GLBenchmarks website. The benchmark results and product details have since been removed, but not before the folks at AndroidOS.in and Eeevolution.it managed to grab a few screenshots.

They tell a story of a tablet with a 10 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel display, Android 4.2,  and a 1.8 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 4 ARM Cortex-A15 quad-core processor.

In other words, the Kobo Arc 10 HD has some of the best specs you’re likely to find on a tablet in the next few months. Kobo also has a habit of pricing its tablets competitively, in hopes of getting users to buy the tablet and use it to purchase content from the Kobo eBook store. So it’s possible that the company’s first 10 inch tablet could have a retail price much lower than the $500 asking price for the similarly-specced Toshiba Excite Pro tablet.

On the other hand, just because it looks like Kobo was testing a new tablet, doesn’t mean that the company plans to bring it to market. This may have been a limited edition prototype and nothing more.
