Toshiba’s adding three new Android tablets to its lineup, including two models with high resolution displays and speedy NVIDIA Tegra 4 quad-core processors.

Prices run from $300 for the entry-level tablet to $600 for a premium model with a high-res display and pressure-sensitive digital pen.

Toshiba Excite Pure

For $300 you get a tablet with a 10 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, an NVIDIA Tegra 3 ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core processor, 16GB of storage, and a microSD card slot.

This tablet is a lot like the last few Toshiba Excite tablets to hit the streets, but it has a lower starting price. It’ll ship with Android 4.2 software. There’s a front-facing camera, but no rear camera.

Toshiba Excite Pro

Toshiba’s $500 tablet has an NVIDIA Tegra 4 ARM Cortex-A15 quad-core CPU, a 10 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel display, and an optional keyboard case which lets you use the tablet like a notebook.

This model offers up to 32GB of storage, front and rear cameras, and Harman Kardon speakers.

Toshiba Excite Write

Like the Pro, this tablet has a Tegra 4 chip, 32GB of storage, a 2560 x 1600 pixel display, and an 8MP rear camera.

What sets the $600 Excite Write tablet apart is the Wacom active digitizer with 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity, letting you write or draw on the tablet using a digital pen.

  1. Sounds interesting, there’s just a slight typo…
    “Toshiba Excite Write

Like the Pro, this tablet has a Tegra 3 chip”

    Shouldn’t that be a Tegra 4?

  2. Seems that Toshiba is sticking with the full SD slots. I guess they have found a market with photographers.

    1. Always wondered about the fetish for MicroSD. On anything larger than a phone you can almost always put in a full size SD slot (look at the teardowns, always seems to be some void space) and enough MIcroSD cards ship with an adapter for full SD that most people probably have one. So why not put the slot that can accept either one instead of limiting the choice to the smaller one?

      1. Best guess i have, it allows the designers to shave off a couple of mm of thickness.

I think perhaps Toshiba is the only company that has approached Android tablets as anything more than glorified media players. Consider their first tablet, full size ports, removable battery, virtually built for serious use.

The one place you find similar setups are with recent Windows 8 tablet. Observe the Gigabyte series that was mentioned on Liliputing today, full size USB, VGA, HDMI, Ethernet even! Now that to me seems like a tablet workhorse.
