Asus is adding a new premium ultrabook to its Zenbook lineup. The Asus Zenbook Infinity features a 13.3 inch display, a 28W Intel Haswell processor, and a slim design — the notebook measures just 0.6 inches thick.

Unfortunately, we don’t actually know much more about the laptop yet. Asus is only displaying it in a glass case, and hasn’t even confirmed whether it has a 1920 x 1080 pixel display, or a higher-resolution 2560 x 1440 pixel screen (which AnandTech and some other sites suggests is a possibility).

The notebook seems to have 2 USB 3.0 ports, a micro HDMI port and mini DIsplayPort, an da backlit keyboard.

Asus hasn’t yet announced the price or release date for the Asus Zenbook Infinity.

  1. Look. I want display tech to advance more than most folks. But seriously, the software on the Windows Side can’t cope with high DPI yet. It’s coming, and will be useful in the future at some point… But the software MS was pushing to address this issue, METRO apps, aren’t going much of anywhere, and having such a ultra fine detailed display, is actually harmful to the user experience on most of these laptops.

On the Mac, it’s different. It renders the display differently. But MS hasn’t done that yet. Maybe it happens with Blue, err, Windows 8.1 but I haven’t read anything about that being a bullet point yet. Even if it does, I’m not exactly positive that it will be executed properly right out of the box.

This is all to say, that although I’m happy high DPI displays are coming to market, I wouldn’t touch one with a 10 foot pole right now, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone else does either.
