Zotac has been selling small form-factor desktop computers under its ZBOX line for the past few years. While early models featured low-power Intel Atom processors, the company has gradually added faster and faster chips. Earlier this year Zotac introduced the first model with an Intel Core i3 chip.

Now Zotac has two more ZBOX mini-desktops, each powered by an Intel Ivy Bridge dual-core processor.

Zotac ZBOX ID88

Like the company’s earlier models, these new ZBOX computers will be available as barebones systems without RAM or hard drives, or as PLUS models featuring 4GB of RAM and 500GB hard drives. Either way, you’ll have to supply an operating system yourself.

Zotac ZBOX ID89

The higher-end model features a 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5-3470UT dual-core processor, Intel HD 2500 graphics, HDMI and DVI video output, and Gigabit Ethernet.

It has an SDXC card reader, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, optical S/PDIF audio, 2 USB 3.0 ports, and 2 USB 2.0 ports.

The computer also comes with a media center remote control and a USB infrared receiver.

Bit-Tech reviewed this model recently, and found that the computer does a pretty good job with media playback and general computing tasks, but that the graphics capabilities aren’t really good enough to handle recent video games.

If you’re looking for a gaming system, you should probably keep looking. But the ZBOX ID89 seems like a pretty good option for building a home theater PC or for use as an all-purpose computer if you don’t have a lot of room for a tower case.

Ths ZBOX ID89 Plus is expected to sell for around $519. The model without the memory and hard drive should be somewhat cheaper.

Zotac XBOX ID88

Like the ID89, this model supports up to 16GB of RAM and features a 2.5 inch hard drive bay. But it has a slower Intel Core i3-3220T processor.

The rest of the specs are the same, including Intel HD 2500 graphics and DirectX 11 support.

There’s no optical disc drive on either model, so you’ll need a USB drive if you want to watch DVDs or Blu-ray discs while using the computer a media center.

Both boxes measure 7.4″ x 7.4″ x 2″ and come with VESA monitor mounts which you can use to attach the PC to the back of a display.

  1. Wow, @john bayner, you may want to rethink your career of predicting what other people want! I was in a brand new hospital yesterday that had a zotac attached to the wall in each patient room. It was attached to a custom controller the patient could use to do various patient-type stuff. My 6yro was able to figure it out and use it easily. I’m pretty sure a laptop would have been fail in this enviro

  2. They do have HD4000. These are the mobile versions of the chips, which come with the HD4000, not the desktop versions, which only come with HD4000 for models ending in 5 or K series models.

  3. I cant think of why anyone would want this…..might as well have a Laptop

    1. Many reasons, of which home theater PC jumps out the most.

  4. Way too expensive, as well. Who wants to spend more than 200-300 on a barebones mini-pc?
