The Hyundai T7 is a 7 inch Android tablet with a 1280 x 800 pixel display and a speedy Samsung Exynos 4412 quad-core processor. It’s also pretty darn cheap, selling for as little as $140 or so (plus shipping from China).

There are only a few catches. First, it ships with Android 4.0 rather than a newer version of Google’s operating system. Second, when I tried updating the firmware on a demo unit, I broke my tablet.

If that doesn’t scare you off, there’s good news: There’s a new Android 4.2 beta software update available for the Hyundai T7.

Geekbuying has download links and and instructions for upgrading the tablet. But proceed with caution, since the tablet can be a bit fickle.

It’s also beta firmware, so there are also links to the stock software in case you encounter problems and want to go back to Android 4.0.

You can also buy an OEM version of the tablet (without branding) from Geekbuying for $150 + free shipping to the US.

  1. do you see any dead pixel on your T7? i got some, mine is brand new. also is there like a slightly visible rainbow gradient on the display while showing gradient color, such as white gmail background. and last, does your T7 also get pretty hot on some occasion such playing games or turning on wifi and gps.

  2. Hey Brad, is your tablet still broken? On the bottom of the tablet on the left side of the sdcard slot there should be a small reset button. Push a pin in there for about 3-5 seconds and then try powering on the device again. It should turn on if it has the same problem as mine did. That being said, try to downgrade the firmware as soon as you can, as the company that is representing Hyundai to manufacture these tablets apparently decided to release the Android 4.2.2 firmware for it while it was still riddled with bugs. Hope this helps!

  3. Umm… Apple?

First, it ships with Android 4.0 rather than a newer version of Apple’s operating system.
